Michigan and Florida primary woes, might vote for Ron Paul

Michigan and Florida primary woes, might vote for Ron Paul

I don't know how many of your are following the problems of Michigan and Florida this primary season. The two large swing states decided against their national overloards to move up their dates before Iowa and NH. Despite the fact both states as far as I know have now moved back their dates behind the first three primaries some sort of penalties are in place.

For Michigan, the republican's said they will only count half of the delegates, the democrat's just said Saturday they will not seat anyone!

Just in today:
Wednesday 21 November 2007 - Michigan 15 January 2008 Presidential Primary Update
http://www.thegreenpapers.com/P08/MI-R.phtml
Quote:
Michigan’s 15 January 2008 presidential primary will go forward under a decision (Grebner v. Michigan, SC docket No. 135274) issued today by a 4-3 majority of the Michigan Supreme Court. The court said the law served a predominantly public purpose and reversed lower court rulings that said provisions giving the two major parties exclusive access to primary voter lists was an unconstitutional appropriation of public property for private purposes.
If my only choice is Hilllary Clinton or Dennis K in Michigan (all other Dem's were removed to comply with DNC rules), then I'll vote for Ron Paul in the republican primary.

Like..........do I have a choice?

Could others be considering what I am?

How could this change things for either party?

Both of the major parties have screwed up primaries. However I feel the republican approach in counting 1/2 the delegates to be a rational compromise. The democrats still need to resolve this issue in a manner other than not counting them at all and having half the candidates off the ballot to begin with.

Here is what I did not know, it's just not Florida the republicans are punishing.

Republican Delegation at half size list: ( From the fundraising blog – Preservation of Knowledge, Decades From Now)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Republican_Party_(United_States)_presidential_prim aries,_2008#_note-1
Wyoming
New Hampshire
Michigan
South Carolina
Florida
..................and
Wyoming
West Virginia

Perhaps the republican's wish for primary reform was more widespread and therefore their problem was much larger. This forced a RNC compromise which the DNC was not forced to make.

Dem's list: ( From the fundraising blog – Preservation of Knowledge, Decades From Now)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Democratic_Party_%28United_States%29_presidential_ primaries%2C_2008
January 15, 2008 Michigan 157 [0]......... no delegates
January 29, 2008 Florida 210 [0].......... no delegates

Well, that sucks. But plenty of states have primaries long after the nominations are locked up. Talk about a waste of a vote.

Do you think they should hold the primaries all on the same date like a national election?

Would this prevent any of the little guys from ever emerging from the pack?

I don't know how to fix it. I don't see the point in having two huge national elections, especially since each candidate's fundraising, and thus ability to campaign everywhere, depends on their performance in the early primary states. Seems to me, a staggered schedule is necessary here. No one can tell each state what to do and they all want to be first. But we need order here.

I think NH and IA are disproportionately represented by the news media as soooo important, when they really aren't. Pat Buchanan won NH in '96. Bill Clinton lost NH in '92. Some of the little guys simply do not belong in the race. I don't mind watching them beat up on the top tier candidates and it's entertaining. But let's face it, Dennis Kucinich and Mike Gravel are never going to even get close to the nomination. Huckabee and Paul have done an amazing come-from-behind, so they've earned their places in the pack.

Thats a great idea kach22i. Its been going around for a while and I think its great too. Let all of them debate, etc. up until say, March 15, then all for one or none. This entire primary scene is way out of wack.

This is interesting (to me):

Ron Paul Takes Third in Iowa newspaper's "best guess"

We caution our readers that our methodology is wholly unscientific. Our rankings are based on impressions we received from activists, politicos, and caucus-goers along with our gut feelings and guesses. We hope that as our readers follow the always unpredictable Iowa horse race from day to day, they will keep this list in mind as a useful perspective from reporters on the ground across the state.

If the caucuses were held tonight, these are the results we would predict:
NOTE: Many Ron Paul supporters feel that there has been a media bias against him and that he is not being treated fairly in the projection of his public image. The newspaper opinion above which just gives a subjective "vibe" about it all tends to support that he is being ignored by the major mainstream media sources.

I still love Richardson's humor.

Gov. Bill Richardson's campaign will soon begin airing a new crop of ads in Iowa and New Hampshire showing Richardson participating in mock interviews. Here's a preview:

Ron Paul Robocalling Registered Dems

Quote:
The Ron Paul campaign has started automated phone calls to registered Democrats, urging them to register as Republicans for a day to caucus for Paul.

A 31 year old female registered Democrat reported receiving the call on Thursday at her home number in Marion, and provided a recording of the call to Iowa Independent.

The male voice on the call never gives a name, but offers the following pitch:

"Hello. I'm a registered Democrat voter here in Iowa supporting Ron Paul for president because he's serious about actually changing things in Washington. I'm re-registering as a Republican now, or at the door on caucus night, so I can vote for Ron Paul in the caucus on January 3rd. Hey, I can always re-register as a Democrat any time after the caucus."

For 20 years as a congressman, this guy has never voted for more federal control, to overspend the budget, raise taxes, or increase government regulation. He even voted against the congressional pay raises and opted out of their excessive retirement program.

As president, his plan will get us off the spiral of inflation. He will quickly get us out of the war in Iraq, out of the NAFTA trade agreement, and actually put an end to illegal immigration.

For more information call 888-828-PAUL. That's 888-828-PAUL. Thank you and God bless."

A disclaimer in a different male voice then says, "Authorized and paid for by Ron Paul 2008 Presidential Campaign Committee."

The phone number in the call is listed on the Paul campaign site.

The call recipient, Hillary Clinton supporter Sarah Poisel, said she was maddened more than she was persuaded by the call. "I know people can do it," she said of changing parties, "but it shouldn't be encouraged."

"Some Democrats might not think he's a real Republican, but with the Democratic race as close as it is, they shouldn't waste their votes on a Republican who's not going to win," said Poisel.

This election is the biggest "up in the air" primary I remember, ever. Both sides are far from settled.

UPDATE
Primary Eve.............................01/14/2008

Hello,

My favorite guy Bill Richardson is out of the race already. The best qualified, and the most experienced is no longer campaigning - nuts!

Situation is that the Republican's had seven states
trying to move their primary dates up, the Democrats
only had to contend with Michigan and Florida. The
Republicans were forced into making a reasonable
compromise of counting and seating only half of the
delegates. The Democrat's however will not seat anyone
from Michigan and Florida as a punishment.

I cannot vote or have my vote count in the Democratic
primary, that leaves the Republican primary.

I've decided to vote for Ron Paul.

I will not vote for any candidate with an "R" by their name in the general election because of the out of control spending they have had at the tax payers expense these past seven years.

I want to see Ron Paul to continue to raise
heck and to discuss the issues others seem afraid to
tackle.

Doctor Paul's uncanny ability to cut away the typical
facade of hypocrisy is refreshing and as the only
anti-war and anti-spending like a drunken sailor
Republican, I think his voice is an important one.

Also I think Mitt Romney could be the most threatening
to the eventual democratic nominee (smooth talker), so anything to keep Mitt from winning Michigan (and continuing war spending) is a plus in my eyes.

Ending the war spending in Iraq is priority with me. Spending toppled the old Soviet Union and it could be our undoing as well.

Vote Ron Paul, he is the crazy guy that's most likely NOT to win in the general election - but he's a hoot.

Cheers, George/kach22i

I voted for Thompson even though he isn't campaigning here. He needs a miracle in SC and Romney winning here in Michigan will keep it open for him.

Gotta dream

Hey Kach, I haven't seen Jenny in a while...do you think we're supposed to be blown away yet?

Blown by Jenny................sounds like a porn movie, and a good one too.

I just found out that another hard working award winning architect my age died of a heart attack past summer. I knew the guy, and know of another architect my age who had a heart attack a few years ago and went out of business as he could only work part time after that. I'm ready to pop myself, working to death just to go into debt. I'm in the wrong state, the wrong business. Mid-life crisis looming for sure and Jenny can't help.

Lendaddy, I would be thrilled if somehow Thompson end up in the Whitehouse, but I think he has little chance. I hope I am wrong but I am not holding my breath.

Very interesting here. Romney looks like he's lived to fight another day. Now onto NV and SC. It kind of seems like each candidate, when they're in a do or die situation, pulls it out. Hillary had to win NH and did. Ditto for McCain. Romney had to win MI and probably has. Now let's see if Thompson can pull it out in SC. My vote in the VA primary might just mean something after all!

Hey lendaddy, you may have given Thompson (a clown trying to pretend that he's the reincarnation of another bad actor who turned into a bad president) the kiss of death.

Remember how you messed up that favorite/underdog thing in NFL games and how you predicted that Eli would "implode" or something like that before the Tampa Bay game?
