Is Gay Life happier ?
Seriously. Before you start with the fluffer comments..
Think about it. Heterosexual men are on a primitive, more or less subconscious level, driven and motivated by the little guy. All down the line in the animal kingdom, the behavior is motivated by an inborn drive to breed. In many aspects we are not different. It may look that way in modern society, but deep down the urge is sexual - breeding. In order to produce a quality spawn you need to attract a quality partner (of the opposite sex..). In order to do so, you need to present yourself as likewise attractive. For a male, that includes being healthy, strong and dominant (around the cave thousands of years ago) as that indicates healthy gene material as well as good properties for protecting and feeding the off spring and mother. Same today, although even a small guy without Mr. Olympia body or aggressive, dominant behavior can strike a good catch - as long as he can display the modern societies equivalent of a good breeding partner, like money, position etc. Now all this produce a great amount of stress, competition and a never seizing urge to 'score' - all which tends to have a negative impact on harmony, happiness, calmness and what have you. Assuming gay people do not feel that same biological urge - is it fair to guess they generally feel more harmony, less stress etc..? I acknowledge gay people may feel less happy as the society in general have a somewhat skeptic attitude to homosexuality, but we will have to disregard that issue in this discussion.

Take the irrationality of a women and combine it with the ubber-sexuality of a man and add a good portion of drama and cleanliness and you have a recipe for misery!
I am convinced that no one is gay by choice - way too big a pain in the ass...

I guess I don't fit the stereotype. I'm definitely not gay and have no interest whatsoever in having kids.

I think that's an erroneous assumption. I think gay men have the same biological urge to spread their seed, they just are a bit confused on what field to spread it in.
That being said, I think yes, there are definite advantages to being gay. Even with the recent advances in women's liberation and "sexual freedom," women are still the hunted, and men the hunters. Still usually takes some work to get into some quality cratch slapping. But gay dudes - there's no one guarding the vault! No biological "checks and balances." A free for all, if you will. |

Interesting theory but the reality seems rather different. At the end of my stay in education a handful of people 'came out'. The gay guys pretty much fitted the trad stereo type of being hyper fashion/looks aware, highly sensitive etc etc and one of them who I bump into every now and then is actually keen on the idea of having kids somehow (something as a straight guy I'm not and never have been keen on).
Being Gay seems like much harder work and gay sex puts me right off the idea too! Oh and the only lesbian I know although a really nice gal, just doesn't fit into the pr0n vid stereo type. To give you some idea she actually took part in a female Sumo wrestling competition in Japan! (and no I'm not making this up!) |

I know two guys that are gay. One I would count as a friend. I don't think either are particularly happy. They don't seem to have much joy in their lives. Its not that they are depressed, their lives just seem emotionally empty.
I was brushing my daughters hair this morning, getting her ready to go on a field trip to an animal farm. She was excited, and was talking on and on about the animals she was going to see. I just listened quietly and smiled. I don't think my gay friends are going to experience joy like I did at that moment. Perhaps I am wrong?

Way back, among the friends my kids had was one young (18 Y.O.) who confided in me that he was "gay". I asked him about it, non judgementally. He said he was raised in a family where the mother was abusive, physically and emotionally, and the father was meek and never raised his voice or became violent. So my young friend was convinced that having a same sex partner (male) was emotionally safer. So...What do I know....here is a case where nurture seems to trump nature. Another was more along religious lines...an over zealous mother who wanted her son to be a clergyman. He figured that it would be wrong to have anything to do of a sexual nature with women. It took years for this guy to get his head on straight. I do not know personally any same sex couples although I would not try to change them if did...Ain't my business.
Markus..You can not dismiss the societal taboo completely in any discussion about homosexuality. It is like the 800 pound gorilla in the room. Difference between men and women was once explained to me as follows: Women give sex to get love. Men give love to get sex. I think someone on this board said that once before.

I have a LOT of gay friends and I am deeply envious of how they can find tons of sex at the drop of a hat - any flavor - any variey, quantity, whatever. I'll be talking to a gay friend on the phone and hear him clicking his mouse in the background. Then he'll say, "I gotta go because I just set up a date with a hot young guy who wants to get tied up in a wet suit and sniff poppers while I blah blah blah..."
It really is AMAZING. It is as if all of the hot chicks say "yes" to everything and are always ready and willing. I also find that my gay friends have no freaking idea what it is like being hetero. They assume women are as easy as men and are astonished when I tell them how hard I have to work to get a freaking date. Grrrrr.... BTW - The example of the hot young guy in the wetsuit came from a recent conversation with a friend and is real...

Happier? Was Lt. Dangle happy when Officer Garcia stole Leslie from him, at their Gay Commitment Ceremony?
I just hope Trudy's kid isn't Dangle's.

One of the things he told me after he came out (aged about 18/19) that I found quite amusing and annoying at the same time (cause I wasn't getting laid!) was that he had shagged various girls but it was no good, deep down it felt wrong and ultimately no amount of straight sex could make him feel hetro! |

Every gay male I have ever known on a personal basis was/is an alcoholic and liked drugs. The harder the better - no pun intended. Had a good friend years ago who happened to be gay. Died of Aids - he liked needles.
Not saying all gay males fit this group - just my experience. This sample group is probably about a dozen guys over the years.

I'm a minority at my company as a straight guy--most of my close friends are gay--women included. They go through the same ***** we all do. Are they happier? No. Are some of them? Sure. Just like us breeders.

On a more serious note;
I would imagine the majority of gay males not living in a liberal area, would be pretty repressed and life wouldn't be happy at all. Hence the above comment about hitting the booze and drugs a bit to hard. Even ones who have moved to a more accepting environment would still have mental issues stemming from childhood and early adult life living with severe repression. I can't imagine someone who is programmed one way and brought up in a world that is the opposite can truly be happy. If they are, good for them, but I would bet it's probably rare.

Thanks for all your replies. I can see how my hypothesis is being shot to pieces.
![]() Now, how about eunuchs? Assuming they lack a sex drive - is my theory more plausible with them?

I sometimes wish I were gay. It would certainly be simpler.
