Enough of ugly guns, time for something cute
![]() Would that I had a 4-8 year old grandaughter, this would likely provide her first shooting experience (probably sans scope). A big day would be when she could move up to something in walnut. Jim

I found this this J.Stevens Arms Little Scout .22 LR 14 1/2 in the closet of our house after moving in. It was disassembled and VERY rusty. The main large components were were all there along with a soup can containing a few of the smaller parts and screws. Unfortunately it is still missing some parts. Someday I hope to find the missing parts at a gun show.
I ended up gluing/re-oil finishing the cracked stock and sanded/re-blued the steel parts (It many parts were rusted BAD). I know it is considered sacrilege to do this to old firearms, but this is not too valuable to start with and it was in awful condition. I was bored and it seemed like a challenge to spruce it up. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Those are sweet little guns Tim. Nice job on bringing it back to life. What type of blue are you using?

In person it looks pretty good, but the pictures above with camera flash and on macro, makes it look bad/non uniform. In person, it looks pretty uniform and dark. I did this several years ago around the time I fixed up my grandfather's old cheap 12ga double. No doubt there are better processes available, but I am happy with the results compared to what I started with. I also redid a cheap .22 bolt action for my wife's dad with the stuff. It worked pretty well provided provided I polished the steel to a near chromelike finish prior to applying the blueing agent.

Tim, As I said it looked great. If I am not doing a complete rust blue and boil, I use this stuff from Brownells called Oxpho Blue. Get the cream version as it is better to control. Put it on with 00 steel wool, wipe lightly with one pass and let it dry over night. It will dry dull like car wax. Then 0000 steel wool it off and do it all over again, say 3-4 times. They will look like new.

Thanks for the tip David. Next time I get the urge to do something like this, I will have to try the cream.

If you have ANY other questions, just PM me. I can teach you rust blueing pretty easy. It just takes a bit of time but worth it as it was the original finish. A buddy of mine just bought a little gun like yours at a gunshow last week for $150.00 quite a deal seeing as they are worth close to $500.00.

Oxpho works great as alternative to tank bluing. It's more along the lines of an old-fashioned rust-blue, accelerated.
I used to keep the Brownells catalog in the bathroom. ![]() Prices aren't as attractive as whenI had anFFL... ![]()

Seeing as you can't tank doubles, I have perfected rust blue. I'm now working and doing B&W on old damascus steel. A LOT more time involved.

That is OUTSTANDING. Shaun, your fashion apparel company needs to get back into the girl's market and sell those rifles! Hell, add some glitter to the barrel and sell accessorizing jewelry. I think you'd sell a million Barbie Dream Rifles in the first year. Wasn't your company trying to sell clothing that "empowered" young girls? What can be more empowering than being heavily armed!
And wouldn't it be cool if you could include the dream rifle along with the pink Barbie "Rat Patrol" Jeep? It could include a mount for the rifle and plans to convert to full auto!

Before... they just look like crap. The bluing mostly red or brown rust.

Wow,
Very nice seeing these old rifles, except for one thing. 30 years ago last month we had a house fire in which we lost, among other things, an old pump action 22 and a 32 rim-fire which looked pretty much like this except the section at the breech was octagonal. The drop-block seemed a bit odd, but the piece was wonderfully accurate. As for the pink stock and scope, would that be something along the lines of: "Barbie does Bambi"? Les
