The train wreak had started.....American Idol '08

What a freak show. I can't stop watching it, it's like a derailment of a 1000 car freight train.:D

VaSteve 01-15-2008 05:13 PM

Yup. Apparently these people don't have friends to tell them they suck. Dreamers and fools.

Rob Channell 01-15-2008 08:56 PM

My wife and I think many of them had no siblings. Brothers and sisters would make sure you new exactly how much you stunk.....

widgeon13 01-16-2008 03:02 AM

How can you watch it, it's like fingernails across a blackboard to me!! Can't believe there are so many people who want to look and act stupid in front of millions.

URY914 01-16-2008 03:48 AM

It is a sad look at the future. These young kids are out of touch and will only get worse as they get older. There were a couple (2-3) hot chicks to make it worth wild.

Chocaholic 01-16-2008 04:09 AM

It's a TV show guys. Relax.

baldman 01-16-2008 05:57 AM

Yup, the American Idol tryouts are my guilty pleasure. Then I turn it off once the Hollywood shows start - it's not as entertaining.

I think a lot of the people are more about getting on TV than not knowing they sound like... well like me in the shower. ;)

widebody911 01-16-2008 05:59 AM

The real travesty is that there are idiots who actually watch this stuff.

berettafan 01-16-2008 06:47 AM

i'm not entirely comfortable with spotlighting some of the truly nutty folks. the grossly obese black girl (mom was on oxygen) and the crazy girl from allentown.....i dunno it seems like that part of the show is MAYBE one step above going to a mental institution and pointing and laughing.

Chocaholic 01-16-2008 07:24 AM

Jerry Springer.

There's an audience for anything.

The girl from Allentown and her mother have some serious issues. They need to be watched.

From what I understand about the process, to get to Randy, Paula, and Simon, these people sing to several different judges. So some of them are only being let through because they make for good TV. (Whatever good TV is). They must send months in the edit rooms cutting miles of footage down to only 100 minutes for a two hour show.

Our opinion was that she was totally acting for the camera ... "I'll be waiting for you..." She's hoping she can turn it into some freak side-show like that Asian guy a season or two back did.

That obese 16 yr old black girl, hell her entire family, is in need of immediate professional intervention. What a train wreck.

This is the first Idol show we watched since the first season and probably the last. I really felt sorry for that black dude (tour guide) with the obvious mental problems when Randy and Paula were laughing their asses off. He totally didn't get it and that was truly sad.

My g/f noticed that the one of the contestant's huge ear rings would appear and disappear depending on whether she was singing or "talking" to the judges.

The way the show is filmed, it makes me wonder how many of the reaction shots of the judges actually goes with the singers we are watching or just stock filler material. Kind of like obvious body doubles in nude scenes.

So what is the alternative?
Barret Jackson on speed?

I just worked on my race car and went to bed early.

Craig 930 RS 01-16-2008 10:39 AM

Barrett....the ultimate greed-laden, wankfest, showoff bull***** festival.
Makes American Idol look intelligent

Seric 01-16-2008 11:03 AM

I liked the first couple seasons (tryouts), those were the truly dillusional freaks, now people do it to get on TV. Fake!

berettafan 01-16-2008 01:53 PM

agree that some folks will act dumb for the camera but how does anyone know the difference?

the black fellow that 'sang low' is certainly another great example. the difference with him is that he showed sadness on his face BUT that doesn't make it any more of a shame than allentown girl's wackiness.

you have to imagine that these folks have occasional moments of lucidity and they realize just how bad it is.......how badly must that hurt? to realize that you're different and something is wrong but you just can't fix it.

i guess i'm just a bit of a nancy when it comes to the mentally ill. i still remember the sadness i felt as a child when i watched the movie 'bill on his own'.

It is on right now...for the most part the males have been terrible...
however an early front runner for the next American Idol will be
Kady Malloy, 18 year old from Dallas. She is good looking and has a
nice tone with good range and dead on pitch.
