If the election was tomorrow, I'd be voting for him.

I won't rule out a very strong performance by him in CA. Hell, I think he might even have a shot at winning here, just based on the number of fliers, bumper stickers, signs and "word of mouth" that I see. It FAR outpaces any other (R) candidate.

CA is a big place and what I see may not be representative of the state as a whole, but I think he's a lot more viable than a lot of the partisan goose-steppers give him credit for.

We need CANDIDATES, not parties. Ron Paul is a candidate first and doesn't particularly give a damn about the "party line". For that alone, he gets huge bonus points (at least from me). Political parties are neither provided for in the Constitution, nor do they serve the best interests of the voting constituency (quite the opposite in fact). The fact that Paul is so obviously just sticking a party "tag" on himself just to get in the game is something that I (and others) see and admire.

At the local high school, you only see two candidates bumper stickers on kids cars, Obama and Paul. I've never seen a Hillary bumper sticker at the local school. She has no cool factor.

Up until two weeks ago, Ron Paul was the only candidate I'd seen ANY campaign materials for. I've seen more posters, bumper stickers, pamphlets for him than anyone. I've even seen a guy standing on a street corner wearing an old-time folding sign for Ron Paul. Both of the gun shops I frequent have Ron Paul campaign materials out on the counter...

I've seen maybe a half-dozen Obama stickers.

"Still think Ron Paul has no chance?" YES.

Let's see what the situation is after super tuesday. Giuliani has been focused on super tuesday the whole time. I predict there will be a huge shakeup in the polls next month.

Don't read too much into the stickers etc.. He has by far the most signs and bumperstickers in my area of any candidate. Like I said, his supporters are rabid.

In my county he got a whopping 3.78%. Loud does not mean many.

And P.O.P., are you aware that Paul is a creationist that thinks school prayer and the ten commandments in courthouses is ok? Don't you consider such beliefs the mark of an idiot?

And on the Eighth Day, God created . . . . no chance.

The little known Eleventh Commandment: Thou shall have no chance.

That's awesome news! I'm with Perot all the way! I mean Nader - I'm with Nader all the way! Crap! I'll get this right. Paul. This time I'll throw away my vote on Ron Paul.

The wheels on the bus go round and round.

Ron Paul is running for the Republican nomination, not as a third party for the presidency.

rammstein 01-16-2008 10:38 AM

His existence and small but rabid support gives me hope that at least SOME Americans are like me.

I don't agree with Ron Paul on 100% of his views. Actually we differ in many ways. BUT... the core ideals are correct. I think at this point I will vote for him even if it means a write-in. I can't vote in the primary because I refuse to affiliate with a party, Republican or otherwise.

:D:D:D ...another classic line brought to you from those fun loving, kooky guys on PPOT.

There oughta be an "Ultimate PPOT One-Liners" thread. It would take the input of those among us that have been here a long while and remember them. And you'd have to put the one liner into context, in this case you'd have to include the title of the thread, but some of them have been SO damn funny, regardless of your politics or opinions. I about blew Coke out my nose on this one:D

"Slapping cratch" comes to mind. Others?

Most of us have probably voted "within the system" for our whole lives. You know, not voting necessarily for the "best" candidate but the best that we thought could get elected because we didn't want to "waste" our vote.

How is this strategy working out for you? I mean, are you getting the kind of leaders you want?

This year (after watching a documentary about Ralph Nader) I had an epiphany:
Now I start from the premise that every vote is "wasted" as long as I'm only looking at the current election cycle. All my past votes really changed nothing (at least not for the good).

Right now the election/gov is pretty much controlled by 2 near monopolies. Like a business that only responds to loss of revenue ("vote with your wallet"), these parties aren't going to bring some things to "market" unless they lose votes by not doing so.

Like 2 big supermarket chains - when they start losing sales to the organic foods markets they start carrying organic foods in order to compete.

Kerry lost (or "lost" depending on your view) by a slim margin, most likely due to "wasted" votes that went to other candidates like Nader. You could say Nader "spoiled it" for Kerry or alternatively you could say Kerry spoiled if for himself when he decided not to address the issues that Nader voters cared about.

Just my take on it.

Prayer in schools or courts is fine as long as it's not mandatory or expected. Want to have a moment of silence before class or before court is opened? Fine. I don't have a problem with it. It might be good for people to have that time to reflect on whatever they believe. We could use a little more introspection as a society. I don't think that's a bad thing.

I could care less if he's a creationist on his own time. It has no bearing on his ability to do the job. I would question his supposed denial of natural selection being that his background is science and medicine, however. That's a bit odd. The thing that I think offsets that is the fact that he's ardently for de-federalizing education, so there's little risk of such views (even if he really DOES have them) getting percolated down into the minds of our kids.

Then again, aside from a few rumors, I haven't found or seen anything definite that indicates that he really doesn't believe in natural selection. I have yet to see a quote by him saying this.
