I Went to Walmart :-0

I Went to Walmart:eek:

Well, we all pretty much know that the only thing I like about the place is the people are funny to joke about. Well, I was on one of the Schwinn forums I hang out on, and saw a thing about $59 Krates
Well, this I had to check out as I have been wanting something to take to the track as a pit bike that I wouldn't worry about like when I bring one of my 70s Scramblers or AZUSAs.
Well, I walked in and sure enough, there it was, a green Schwinn Sting-Ray Krate. Not great, much cheaper built than the Lemon Peeler I had as a child. And sure enough, $59
Now all I need is some Tuffs for it. At that price, one could build a Scrambler clone too

It doesn't ride bad, I was getting kinda funny looks, a big gray haired guy walking this bike though the store and then riding it to my car.

Mom, a healthy 74 wanted a bike for Christmas, so now she has this PINK beachcruiser..yes I got her a helmet ( Pink also). It made MY Christmas..she was a little girl that night.

Saw those last week at Wal Mart.

Wife needed a new bike and they had some really good deals.

We had vowed to never set foot in a Wal Mart.

Then we did. Have to say I was impressed with the place.

We won't admit to family and friends though.

What was the average weight of the customers there? 250lbs? 350lbs?

Byron, did you stop my the ammo counter? I hear it's getting expensive now.

I once heard that the front door to WalMart is actually a teleporter to the 1980's deep South. :D

I did too. Then I started driving out to Orange County to visit with my 83 year old mother every Tuesday evening and guess where she just HAS to go every Tuesday? Yup, Walmart.

The ONLY thing good about my weekly :eek::eek: (somebody just kill me) trips to Walmart is that my mom has handicapped parking priviliges there so I don't have to go through THAT particular fustercluck....I just have to go through the rest of them!

I don't like going there, I hate the size of the place, I pretty much dislike the whole expereince. Gotta admit they do have good prices on some things though....doh!

These guys have a warehouse full of vintage bikes and parts and come to find out, are in a nearby town. They had what I assumed were restored Stingrays and Crates at fairly high prices in their showroom when I happened upon the place recently....Maybe they were just these same bikes Walmart is selling for cheap?

Anyhow, I guess these guys do a huge volume of business on-line.

cashflyer 01-16-2008 10:38 AM

You guys are a riot.

Cool website...man, I should have stored and kept that huffy dad bought me...a similar one without the radio sold for $1,500??? I hated it...wanted a schwinn corvette instead.

Where are those bikes built. India? China?

Dan in Pasadena 01-16-2008 11:35 AM

Cr@p Paul, you're old! Hell, you're older than me and that's OLD!

I'm kidding of course. My mother worked in the "stockroom" for JC Penney so she got a 10 or 15% discount. On Christmas morning, there was a new Foremost 3 speed - my first new bike. It looked like the bike "Maria" (Julie Andrews) rode in 'The Sound of Music"! Very upright, completely uncool. I remember being embarassed because all my buddies had new Sting-Ray's. I am now embarassed to say I almost never rode it, ingrate jackass kid that I was.
