I believe the entire statement -
"The GTBO is the brainchild of Peter Maskus, who sees it as the ultimate long-distance transport solution. In the world Maskus envisions, we'll all be using solar-powered, electric mass-transit for short commutes, creating a need for ultra-fast, ultra-efficient, individual, inter-city, rapid transportation. The GTBO fills that need." contradicts the term "brain"child. can you imagine sustaining those kinds of speeds for any length of time......anywhere?? 25 mpg at 250 mph...yeah. Whatever.

Yeah, in a litigious world filled with morons, where even the 10 mph Segway was too dangerous, we'll have 300 mph rocketbikes for intercity travel! |

In the mind of an artist (or futurist) anything is possible.

"Best of all, Acabion are ready to start production."
Of course, that's the key sentence. All it needs to go into full scale production, I'm sure, is a few insightful investors who want to get in on the ground floor. Minimum $100,000 investment, once we get $50 million in our pocket, we'll be ready to start cranking up production. |

Seriously. Don't trash the guy for having vision. Without concepts, dreams and ambitions that reach beyond the dumbed-down constraints of the "real world" sometimes, innovation would be crushed.
Without ideals and dreams, what are we anyway?

I really like the design, but they shame themselves to the Moller level with the claims. If they just said we have enclosed a motorcycle and gave it training wheels, buy it now for twice the price of a normal bike they might look serious and sell a few.

I can't understand how that thing could cost $4M - you can buy a really nice private jet for that kind of money . . .
What am I missing? Best, Kurt |

Well, it kind of looks like a jet, so that's where they got the idea it should cost that much.
I assume it would be like purchasing art, not like purchasing a motorcycle - that's all I can come up with. http://acabion.com/

Yea, but I suspect if he'd said "this is really just an artist's concept" he probably would sell fewer of them. People actually pay for outlandish things if they believe it's part of someone's vision for the future. Pure art/industrial design stuff? Not so much.
Do I REALLY think this guy believes this is the "way of the future"? No. However, I believe he's engaging in clever marketing.

I went into Zellers in Windsor, Canada yesterday and for $90 they had a cool RC toy which I thought could be "scaled up".

HOLY HELL! I had no idea that the dollar has dropped so badly. When I was in Europe three years ago it was about 1:1. Now it is worse than 2:1?

Hmm,
I just Googled it and I got that 1.87 million Euros = 2.74 million dollars. Not quite as bad but STILL!

Is that 340mph on paper or in his mind. I have no doubt there are streamlines and specialized Saltflat cars capable of 340mph but that with training wheels, I will believe it when I see it.

Its interesting but a couple of little details smack me square in the face. If it rains, how do you clear the screen (doesn't appear to be a wiper of any sort). The claimed MPG seems very optimistic, sure its very slippery and light but 100mpg at 100 mph, seems doubtful especially when the motor is capable of producing 750bhp. It would be interesting to see how that thing would handle on a bumpy back road I suspect a normal motorbike or car would be much more confidence inspiring.
Its an interesting idea but in a world were more and more places are starting to rigorously enforce speed limits a private plane makes far more sense and a Veyron would be cheaper, more comfortable and I suspect on real roads it would probably be quicker too. |

I saw a video on development of cars like this about 12 years ago. It was really amazing. The training wheels are only used for low (<5mph) speeds. Then they are retracted into the body.

1. Yes, I suspect that the training wheels would swing up at speed like many other designs do.
2. "Top Gear" has proven that two wheels cannot brake like four wheels can, and any power to weight advantage a motorcycle may enjoy is quickly eaten up on the track in the first turn.
