New Giuliani ad shows Trade Center ruins
Posted: 11:25 AM ET

CNN) – Rudy Giuliani’s campaign released a new ad in Florida Friday that uses footage and photographs of 9/11 and the ruins of the World Trade Center to emphasize his leadership as New York City mayor.

“When corruption ruled, he challenged it. When welfare failed, he changed it. When crime thrived, he fought it. When government broke, he fixed it,” says the announcer in “It Matters,” over images of criminals in handcuffs and the exteriors of porn shops.

“And when the world wavered, and history hesitated, he never did,” he continues, over images and footage of people running from the site of the Trade Center attacks, and the former New York mayor embracing rescue workers. “Rudy Giuliani. Leadership. When it matters most.”

The campaign said the ad is airing in West Palm Beach, an area that is home to a large population of transplanted New Yorkers. Florida voters head to the polls January 29.

Not a huge Giuliani fan, but I think his 9//11 stewardship is fair game. It was the pivotal point of his public leadership. Silly to ignore it.

Giuliani uses 9/11 as his marketing tool only as often as GWB holds us hostage with it.

TERROR! TERROR!

BINGO! We seem to have a winner here.

You are totally correct. Team Bush used 9/11 as their excuse for vitually everything for many years. Dimwits actually bought into it.

As for Rudy...why doesn't he simply change his last name to "Nine Eleven" and then he will not have to grope for ways to bring it up at every possible opportunity. :)

nostatic 01-18-2008 09:55 AM

I don't think it'll play.

As for the TERROR! TERROR! part of it...don't even get me started on that. I'm so damn tired of that crap that when any of the fools running for president even starts to talk about terrorism and the "grave danger to our nation" and about how tough they are going to be...I immediately tune them out as possibly illiterate but more likely political panderers.

Anyone who is so stupid that they think that terrorism is ever going to bring down our nation should seek help.

I could not agree more. In fact I would suggest that out post-9/11 spasms have been far more damaging to our nation than the terrorist attack itself. The President and Congress have done far more damage that Al Quaida ever hoped to.

Still, 9/11 was the pivotal point of Rudy's career. Can't imagine him not making it an issue.

I bet if Nagin ran (and campaigned on the "leadership" he showed in New Orleans), he would have a pretty good base among our liberal friends; the ones that would tear down Giuliani for mentioning the leadership he displayed in New York. I guess we have different standards for leadership.

You say this as though it's not common knowledge.

Rudy was a leader, Bloomberg is a babysitter. Rudy fought a wall of politics, Bloomberg doesn't have an issue.

Rudy will never be and has never tried to be 100% sweet and nice to voters.

What you see is what you get..

Until we have a real investigation which includes Cheney and GWB under oath, I reserve the right to suspect a "false flag operation".

It's just a reservation mind you, but one which prohibits capitalization upon that national tragedy by anyone.

Lighten up boys...I know it was a so-so movie, but it WAS a great band and wonderful soundtrack!

ads like that make me so angry. good to see so many people calling bs on it.

barney the dinosaur could've been mayor of NYC in 2001 and done the same things.

this sort of stuff tells you that the man doesn't really have anything to say other than 'nine eleven, vote for me....nine eleven, vote for me.....nine eleven, vote for me.....'

how is this crap okay? a picture of a ruins that has thousands of dead people in it as a campaign ad? disgusting.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1200688712.jpg

That's absolutely correct, the real threat to the country is liberal policies

dipso 01-18-2008 12:15 PM

That's a good idea!
We can get rid of this whole screwed up election process. No more hanging chads, no more hacked electronic voting machines, no more electoral college, no campaigning, etc, etc, etc.

We just wait until a city is terrorized and make their mayor the next president.
The mayor of Oklahoma City would of been president until 9-11.

livi 01-18-2008 12:39 PM

I am not American and can of course not relate to the national trauma of 9/11 but I feel there is something grotesque and rather bad taste about using those pics that bring back terrible memories to so many people, in order to selfishly promote oneself. Simply bad taste IMHO.

berettafan 01-18-2008 12:42 PM

IMO there is no national trauma.
