What the hell is "chartreuse"?

Someone please explain? Apparently, it's not red...?

What ever happened to REAL colors, like Red, Green, and Blue????????

legion 01-20-2008 01:42 PM

Is it a wine?

SlowToady 01-20-2008 01:48 PM

Nope, apparently it is some color. See, this is the kind of thing that pisses me off. Guys are like Windows, 16 default colors. Peach, for example, is NOT a color. Pumpkin, likewise, is not a color. Sea Salt Green? WTF?

A bunch of crap, that's what this is. Chartreuse. Bah...

(Although, I could go for a glass of wine now...)

I thought it was a limey green? They also have a liquer by that name....

legion 01-20-2008 01:51 PM

I always tell my wife that the only two-syllable colors I know are yellow and purple.

Jim Richards 01-20-2008 01:51 PM

It's pretty much a lime or yellowish green.

SlowToady 01-20-2008 01:53 PM

lol@legion..aha, I like that.

Jim, Mike, thanks! I guess I need to brush up on my colors...

speeder 01-20-2008 01:54 PM

It's like an electric lime-green. (Best description I can manage). It was immortalised in Tom Woolfe's awesome book about the crazy SoCal custom car culture of the 1960s, "The candy-colored tangerine flake streamlined baby"...

speeder 01-20-2008 01:57 PM

The 1974 Carrera on the cover of Car & Driver when Mark Donahue tested the '74 911s was Chartreuse w/ Carrera stripes. Factory color.

Jim Richards 01-20-2008 01:58 PM

For a minute I was thinking about Ken Kesey and some other 60's Cal culture.

SLO-BOB 01-20-2008 02:02 PM

Tipsy?

Frustrated with customers. Nowhere in our literature is the word "chartreuse" mentioned; we explicitly call it "green." Oh well...
