Wow

I was not aware that the MLK was the only human to ever trod the earth who was beyond criticism or even question. I've seen people rip on Jesus & not cause a thread to get shut down.

cool_chick 01-21-2008 11:20 AM

On Christmas?

dd74 01-21-2008 11:23 AM

No one is beyond criticism. I saw the thread had been closed, though I couldn't see what was so offensive or critical among the responses.

Closing it was poor judgment IMO, but whatever. There are larger things in life to consider.

legion 01-21-2008 11:24 AM

Already noticed where that was headed:

What!

Porsche-O-Phile 01-21-2008 11:28 AM

Jesus was a black man anyway.

nostatic 01-21-2008 11:33 AM

fine, I'll open the thread back up and you guys can spew your thinly veiled hate all you want. I'm not going to change you. Then you can bbq a nice sacred cow for dinner.

Mule 01-21-2008 11:33 AM

He must've been related to Sammy Davis Jr., a black jew?

Dude, since when does criticism equal hatred? Don't get me wrong. I have some issues about this subject. The father of our country, George Washington has to share a holiday with other great presidents like Millard Filmore & William Jefferson Clinton so that MLK gets his own day. Is that hatred? I don't think so. It is a difference of opinion, nothing more, nothing less.

Indeed, like not being so enamored with the "dems" or the "pubs" and all the other talking point bullshyt that some can't take a break for one day or even in one thread. :)

K. Roman 01-21-2008 11:43 AM

forget it.

Tim Hancock 01-21-2008 02:37 PM

Easy there Mule, sometimes these "national holidays" are useful.

I always observed MLK day in college..... it made for a nice 3 day weekend for us to take our annual fraternity/sorority ski trip on. Seems as though many others felt the same way as the slopes were always PACKED on those weekends.

On a serious note, I bet MLK would be ashamed of the current buffoons who "claim" to carry his torch (JJ & AS). I personally have no real heartfelt opinion of the man, as I was two yrs old when he died and I grew up in an all white middle class part of the country where race issues really did not come up. I have noticed though that the folks who marched with him in the day, seemed to truly desire equal rights (which they deserved)....not special rights (quotas, reparations.....which they didn't). While I will never know what it is like to be black, I would think that if I was, I would not feel comfortable knowing I got into college or got a job based on my skin color as opposed to earning it.

I have ZERO respect for JJ & AS, I have lots of respect for Bill Cosby.... MLK? Well from my viewpoint he championed a good cause in his time, but I think the JJ & AS's have tried to ride the civil rights movement too far in today's society and now are causing division rather than promoting "equality".

Sorry if I offend anyone here, but this is truly how "I" see it.

Moneyguy1 01-21-2008 02:40 PM

mule...As perfect as you think you are, historically, there was only one perfect person.....

And he wound up crucified.

You ready for that kind of ignominious end?

For 23 years I was married to a woman who felt that, as long as she thought something was true, it was appropriate for her to say it. It might be a cheap shot aimed at someone who was already feeling poorly but she always acted righteous because it was "the truth."

Truth-schmooth. Just because something is true, or as in this current instance, somebody FEELS or BELIEVES it.........does not make it an appropriate remark. Nice try Mul, but to answer your query, yes. It is still hatred. Pointing out that you believe it does not wash it clean.

Tim, I too have not walked a mile in the moccasins of a black man. Where I grew up, there were NO black people. None. Town of 2500 people. County seat. Pretty busy town for only 2500 people. There was a black UPS driver that would come to town occasionally, and folks would STARE. Still, notwithstanding my limited experiences, the principles outlined in Dr. King's famous speech are something of a litmus test, I think. If you can read that speech and not be moved by it......there is something wrong with you.

This may come as shock, but I never have felt like I was even close. But here in America, I do have the right to my own opinion.

I'm always anxious to learn what thoughts lurk in the brain of steel.

FYI, my experience was a little different than yours. My last year of HS (1970), my school went from a few percent black to 65% black, due to 2 schools burning. The school was "platooned", 2 shifts, 7 to 12 or 1 to 5. It became gladiator school. Kids commonly got "stuck up" for their lunch money. I went to school armed every day. Always a knife & sometimes with a gun too. If I had to go unarmed, I would not have gone! This was in the New Orleans area & not all that awfully long after the I have a dream speech. I never was robbed. Had one attempt, on the street I lived on, walking to a football game on Friday night. As the saying goes, it's better to have a gun & not need one than to need a gun & not have one. So I guess if I were to say that the 2 guys who tried to "stick me up" should have had a little more integrity than to try that, I'd be expressing hatred. So in lieu of that, I'll quote that great American, Rodney King & say, can't we all just get a bong?

nostatic 01-21-2008 03:34 PM

ahh, so bad HS experience explains it.

Nope. Listen more carefully, Nostatic. Mule and others of his ilk have been working feverishly to help us understand that we all have the same opportunities. There are no unseen barriers. Past individual experiences, even cultural differences, do not influence behaviors or decisions. Black street orphans have the same shot at success as Duyba did. And of course, by that measure, Mule's boyhood experiences are completely immaterial to his adult behavior. No connection whatsoever.

(should this have been typed in green?)

berettafan 01-21-2008 03:53 PM

cosby is the real deal isn't he.

it is a shame to see so much anger apparently programmed into someone at a young age.

Mule 01-21-2008 04:01 PM

So if you disagree with MLK's socialist leanings and agree with Bill Cosby's calls for personal responsability, are you still a racist/bigot?

You have some serious comprehension issues.

There you go again, guys.

Sounding like nagging women.

No offense Cool!

Good, you are making progress.

Recognizing your flaws is the first step towards self improvement.

Keep it up, there's hope for you yet.

Mule 01-22-2008 07:15 AM

Great, then maybe you will develop the ability to express yourself instead of juvenile name calling without the ability to even point out how you came to a conclusion.

Simply put, if disagreeing with MLK's socialism and agreeing with Bill Cosby's approach of personal responsibility makes me a racist/bigot, then DIG ME!. I am one proud racist/bigot! Put your comprehension skills to work on that!

Moneyguy1 01-22-2008 07:23 AM

Someone else noticed that?

Bob, I gotta go with the Muleman on this one. He does appear to have the more logical point...unless someone can point out exactly why not.
