Wow
I was not aware that the MLK was the only human to ever trod the earth who was beyond criticism or even question. I've seen people rip on Jesus & not cause a thread to get shut down.

No one is beyond criticism. I saw the thread had been closed, though I couldn't see what was so offensive or critical among the responses.
Closing it was poor judgment IMO, but whatever. There are larger things in life to consider.

Dude, since when does criticism equal hatred? Don't get me wrong. I have some issues about this subject. The father of our country, George Washington has to share a holiday with other great presidents like Millard Filmore & William Jefferson Clinton so that MLK gets his own day. Is that hatred? I don't think so. It is a difference of opinion, nothing more, nothing less.

Easy there Mule, sometimes these "national holidays" are useful.
I always observed MLK day in college..... it made for a nice 3 day weekend for us to take our annual fraternity/sorority ski trip on. Seems as though many others felt the same way as the slopes were always PACKED on those weekends. On a serious note, I bet MLK would be ashamed of the current buffoons who "claim" to carry his torch (JJ & AS). I personally have no real heartfelt opinion of the man, as I was two yrs old when he died and I grew up in an all white middle class part of the country where race issues really did not come up. I have noticed though that the folks who marched with him in the day, seemed to truly desire equal rights (which they deserved)....not special rights (quotas, reparations.....which they didn't). While I will never know what it is like to be black, I would think that if I was, I would not feel comfortable knowing I got into college or got a job based on my skin color as opposed to earning it. I have ZERO respect for JJ & AS, I have lots of respect for Bill Cosby.... MLK? Well from my viewpoint he championed a good cause in his time, but I think the JJ & AS's have tried to ride the civil rights movement too far in today's society and now are causing division rather than promoting "equality". Sorry if I offend anyone here, but this is truly how "I" see it.

Truth-schmooth. Just because something is true, or as in this current instance, somebody FEELS or BELIEVES it.........does not make it an appropriate remark. Nice try Mul, but to answer your query, yes. It is still hatred. Pointing out that you believe it does not wash it clean. Tim, I too have not walked a mile in the moccasins of a black man. Where I grew up, there were NO black people. None. Town of 2500 people. County seat. Pretty busy town for only 2500 people. There was a black UPS driver that would come to town occasionally, and folks would STARE. Still, notwithstanding my limited experiences, the principles outlined in Dr. King's famous speech are something of a litmus test, I think. If you can read that speech and not be moved by it......there is something wrong with you.

This may come as shock, but I never have felt like I was even close. But here in America, I do have the right to my own opinion.

FYI, my experience was a little different than yours. My last year of HS (1970), my school went from a few percent black to 65% black, due to 2 schools burning. The school was "platooned", 2 shifts, 7 to 12 or 1 to 5. It became gladiator school. Kids commonly got "stuck up" for their lunch money. I went to school armed every day. Always a knife & sometimes with a gun too. If I had to go unarmed, I would not have gone! This was in the New Orleans area & not all that awfully long after the I have a dream speech. I never was robbed. Had one attempt, on the street I lived on, walking to a football game on Friday night. As the saying goes, it's better to have a gun & not need one than to need a gun & not have one. So I guess if I were to say that the 2 guys who tried to "stick me up" should have had a little more integrity than to try that, I'd be expressing hatred. So in lieu of that, I'll quote that great American, Rodney King & say, can't we all just get a bong?
