Do you introduce yourself to fellow Pelicans with your real name or your screen name?
A while back I smashed my little finger. Just for fun I posted pics and several people replied with sympathies and stories of their own injuries. All was fine. But one Pelican, Noah930, went so far as to shoot me a PM and said "Hey if that finger gives you any trouble Please come see me at the office" (I paraphrased but you get the idea). Pretty kind offer I thought. Shortly after that TRE has their New Years Day gathering. In the thread that followed I see a post from the same screen name Noah930 saying "Sorry I wasn't aware you didn't have a ride you could have rode with me". Again a kind gesture from this gentleman.
Now I'm thinking to myself that I'll have to meet this person face to face and Thank him for his kind offers. Last weekend Banning and SLODave and I and Noah930 were to meet up on Mulholland and go on a safari over the edge. Cool I thought, I'll finally get a chance to meet Noah930 face to face and thank him. Well we all gather at the agreed time and make our introductions. I already know Banning and SloDave so that was quick and another person steps up and introduces himself as Alarick. I'm hoping to get to say hello and thanks to Noah930............DOH! I didn't make the connection between Alarick and Noah930. So here is my formal Hello and Thank You to Alarick AKA Noah930 |
I remain Tabs by anyother name.

I ran across Dalvater (?) the other day- entirely by accident.
He's dating a friend of my GF. How I met him? She brought him into town and we all were hanging out and we were just BS'ing about anything HIM: "I have a 87 Targa I'm building, I'm into Porsches" ME: "do you hang out on Pelican" Him; "Yeah, you do too?" I was also reunited with an old HS buddy I lost track of, years ago. He went from Seattle to Boston, MA and became a Chemical Engineer - turns out his buddy in the office was salivating over various cars on Pelican BBS - The guy singled out my car, showed Tom, and Tom noticed my name, my email sig and went "WTF? I used to party with that guy!!! I lived there once!!!!" Tom isn't a car guy. the rest is history. Small damn world. |
Both.
While I haven't had the chance yet, I'd have to go with both.

Real name. When I joined this board, I was pretty new to the web and in hindsight I would have just used my first name instead of "speeder". I don't relate to it at all; once I was at an event and our host Wayne was calling our "Speeder!" to me, I thought he was saying "Peter" or something and did not respond. He practically had to slap me in the back of the head. :)

I randomly switch between my screen name and real name...
Bond, James Bond
My name, if I meet another Pelican, its usually pre-arranged (like I'm in that city) and they already know my screen name. Or when I met some of you when Wayne brought out the 959 and we had dinner in El Segundo, both.
Both
That's a tough one... I just try not to confuse the two.
name is easy. the picture is the tough one.
I very much prefer my real name. "Lendaddy" makes people think I'm some young hip-hop culture punk and it's not worth the long explanation. But....changing it would be dumb as well so whatever.
Way back when dirt was new, I met a bunch of Pelicans in Calabasas for a drive. IIRC, we mostly used both. Even you did, KevinP73, and you drove a Corvair!
;):D |
What the hell are you talking about?
My wife calls me by my screen name...
I guess both, if I know the persons real name then yes...otherwise you are "Screename Whatever" from Pelican.
Hi. How are you? My name's Scott Romanos.
Who? 450knotOffice. Oh yea! OK. I've seen your posts! ;) |
