Do you introduce yourself to fellow Pelicans with your real name or your screen name?

A while back I smashed my little finger. Just for fun I posted pics and several people replied with sympathies and stories of their own injuries. All was fine. But one Pelican, Noah930, went so far as to shoot me a PM and said "Hey if that finger gives you any trouble Please come see me at the office" (I paraphrased but you get the idea). Pretty kind offer I thought. Shortly after that TRE has their New Years Day gathering. In the thread that followed I see a post from the same screen name Noah930 saying "Sorry I wasn't aware you didn't have a ride you could have rode with me". Again a kind gesture from this gentleman.
Now I'm thinking to myself that I'll have to meet this person face to face and Thank him for his kind offers.
Last weekend Banning and SLODave and I and Noah930 were to meet up on Mulholland and go on a safari over the edge. Cool I thought, I'll finally get a chance to meet Noah930 face to face and thank him. Well we all gather at the agreed time and make our introductions. I already know Banning and SloDave so that was quick and another person steps up and introduces himself as Alarick. I'm hoping to get to say hello and thanks to Noah930............DOH! I didn't make the connection between Alarick and Noah930.

So here is my formal Hello and Thank You to Alarick AKA Noah930

tabs 01-23-2008 03:18 PM

I remain Tabs by anyother name.

RANDY P 01-23-2008 03:22 PM

I ran across Dalvater (?) the other day- entirely by accident.

He's dating a friend of my GF. How I met him? She brought him into town and we all were hanging out and we were just BS'ing about anything

HIM: "I have a 87 Targa I'm building, I'm into Porsches"

ME: "do you hang out on Pelican"

Him; "Yeah, you do too?"

I was also reunited with an old HS buddy I lost track of, years ago. He went from Seattle to Boston, MA and became a Chemical Engineer - turns out his buddy in the office was salivating over various cars on Pelican BBS -

The guy singled out my car, showed Tom, and Tom noticed my name, my email sig and went "WTF? I used to party with that guy!!! I lived there once!!!!"

Tom isn't a car guy.

the rest is history.

Small damn world.

legion 01-23-2008 03:28 PM

Both.

71T Targa 01-23-2008 03:33 PM

While I haven't had the chance yet, I'd have to go with both.

speeder 01-23-2008 03:56 PM

Real name. When I joined this board, I was pretty new to the web and in hindsight I would have just used my first name instead of "speeder". I don't relate to it at all; once I was at an event and our host Wayne was calling our "Speeder!" to me, I thought he was saying "Peter" or something and did not respond. He practically had to slap me in the back of the head. :)

Don Plumley 01-23-2008 04:03 PM

I randomly switch between my screen name and real name...

slodave 01-23-2008 04:09 PM

Bond, James Bond

Hugh R 01-23-2008 04:11 PM

My name, if I meet another Pelican, its usually pre-arranged (like I'm in that city) and they already know my screen name. Or when I met some of you when Wayne brought out the 959 and we had dinner in El Segundo, both.

stomachmonkey 01-23-2008 04:15 PM

Both

Jeff Higgins 01-23-2008 04:17 PM

That's a tough one... I just try not to confuse the two.

nostatic 01-23-2008 04:20 PM

name is easy. the picture is the tough one.

lendaddy 01-23-2008 04:22 PM

I very much prefer my real name. "Lendaddy" makes people think I'm some young hip-hop culture punk and it's not worth the long explanation. But....changing it would be dumb as well so whatever.

DonDavis 01-23-2008 04:25 PM

Way back when dirt was new, I met a bunch of Pelicans in Calabasas for a drive. IIRC, we mostly used both. Even you did, KevinP73, and you drove a Corvair!
;):D

TechnoViking 01-23-2008 04:35 PM

What the hell are you talking about?

GDSOB 01-23-2008 04:41 PM

My wife calls me by my screen name...

k9handler 01-23-2008 04:42 PM

I guess both, if I know the persons real name then yes...otherwise you are "Screename Whatever" from Pelican.

450knotOffice 01-23-2008 05:15 PM

Hi. How are you? My name's Scott Romanos.

Who?

450knotOffice.

Oh yea! OK. I've seen your posts!
;)

I can't say what my wife calls me...might get me banned.

fingpilot 01-23-2008 05:35 PM

I used to be singpilot.

FastPat got me so pi$$ed off I decided to be fingpilot.

It probably fits no matter what else you call me.

CJFusco 01-23-2008 06:23 PM

My screenname? CJFusco

My real name? C. J. Fusco.

I just say my real name fast when I introduce myself.

BRPORSCHE 01-23-2008 07:33 PM

I'm Tom, I'm from New Jersey, Louisiana, Texas, and possibly Japan.

But you can call me BR.

911boost 01-23-2008 07:45 PM

Both, but since my name is Bill, well, its not too hard to figure out my real name. Most folks recognize my car, not so much the car, but the damn aftermarket wheels, anyone have some 7 and 9 cups for sale?

911Rob 01-23-2008 09:36 PM

on da sleeve sitting in my glass house baby! Nothing to hide!

I'm often told that you never have to guess where I stand on an issue.
I try hard to be nice to people here though.

MY name and proud of it.
Irish too 'eh!

Jeff Alton 01-23-2008 09:38 PM

I feel compelled to use both........................at once...........................

Cheers

rnln 01-23-2008 11:29 PM

I rather be called and call other by screen name. Reason, 1- if someone likes to use real name, then why made up a screen name up here? 2- If calling each other by real name, another name beside screen name, now 1 person automatically has more then 1 name. It is too confusing to remember/identify.

9dreizig 01-23-2008 11:45 PM

Depends, if they know the secret Pelican handshake, I use my screen name, otherwise it's Todd

johndglynn 01-24-2008 12:45 AM

Real name for sure. Qualify it with screen name but who wants to speak only to "125cowshed"? Or "hey, ask fasterthanu if he'd like a drink".

Where screen names are nicknames that's a different story. Everyone has a real name somewhere in there though and I like to use it; I'm a grown up and can remember more than two things at once ;)

911Rob 01-24-2008 01:33 AM

+1 Jdg

azasadny 01-24-2008 02:40 AM

My "Pelican name" is my first initial and my last name, so I introduce myself as "Art Zasadny" and nobody recognizes me, but when I tell them my cars name (Helga), they remember that!

Paul K 01-24-2008 04:12 AM

This is the main reason I chose to have my real name as my user name!

Joeaksa 01-24-2008 04:35 AM

Phil... Dr. Phil...

Overpaid Slacker 01-24-2008 06:00 AM

"Hi, I'm Overpaid..." I use that with just about everybody, Pelican or not (except people selling things that I want to buy).

71T Targa 01-24-2008 06:00 AM

I tend to remember posters by their avatar at first. ZONAS comes to mind for some reason.

Noah930 01-24-2008 07:17 AM

Well, like it says in the OP, I use my real name when introducing myself. After all, Noah's the name of my son, not me. But since I bought the car on the day he was born, I hoped that I would own it long enough to someday pass it on to him. (Of course, we may no longer have gasoline by then. But it'll be cool kinetic sculpture, nonetheless.) "Noah's930" seemed a little long to type in everytime I wanted to log-on, so I figured "Noah930" was close enough.
