Put my doggie down today...
It was freaking awful, of course. But it was the right thing to do. At least I have to keep telling myself that. It sucks to be in a position to have to decide whether a creature that you love so much gets to live another day or not, but he was getting worse by the week and there was never going to be a good day to do it.
Sometimes life just sucks. I look forward to happier times. ![]() ![]()

Beautiful dog. I'm sorry to hear that and have been there myself.
The advantage with kids is that they usually outlive us - with pets it's the other way around. If your dog was in pain, you did the right thing at the right time. They should never be forced to suffer. I have a "kill me if I can't be saved" type order filed with my doctor here - I treat my pets the same way my mother wanted to be treated before she died and the same way I want to be treated. |

Sorry, Denis. Words are not going to help, but we've followed your care of this dog and just want you to know that your dog was lucky to have you. You did everything you could, and then some. It was the right decision. Painful, but right.

I'm sure it was an incredibly painful, but humane, decision. In a similar circumstance several years back I was in shock for a couple days...didn't really mourn until the next week. Sorry to hear the news.

![]() ![]() Been there, done that with my beloved Lucy-dog last August. You hit the nail on the head. I felt like judge, jury and executioner. Awful day. I am so sorry, Denis. |

Denis...you did the right thing. You took care of him in good times and when he needed you to help him. He couldn't make these decisions, but he trusted you to know when the time was right - you did.
I have two aging Rhoedesians that I worry about. One is 10 and the other 9. They are first cousins and I got them both when they were 8 weeks old. My love for them is so strong that when the time comes, I will be strong by their side the way they have been for me. They need us to be strong during these times, and that is the way to do it. Difficult, yes, but focus on this day the same way you approached taking care of their other needs over the years. That will help you feel great about the lifelong relationship you had with him. Best to you. And thanks for making a good life for a beautiful animal. JA

So sorry to hear this.
I just recently went through the loss of a pet too (still grieving actually). I have an idea of how you feel. Strength and happiness to you. I know his spirit is out there still, hoping to be reunited with you someday.

denis...my heart sank when i saw the title..knew it was yours when i saw it and before scanning to see the name of the poster. my heart just pours out to you, buddy..i'm an absolute mush-guy inside and this type of thing brings out my turbo-melancholy. you were such a great guy to post on my thread when i lost lilbear. and when you stayed at my house, your buddy met my lilbuddy, even though romeo was a thousand times larger..they just seemed curious to each other.
you even called me to check on me and to say 'gimme a call if you need to talk'. not sure if i recall anyone else doing that, but i didn't forget it..i was just too broken up to talk to even my family at the time. i asked them for some space..it was a tough time. i reciprocate your offer - please feel free to call...fact, i'll probably try to ring you later today anyway. if you're too down to talk, let it go to voicemal and we can check in again some other time. we're both big-time animal folks..respect whatever you need to do today. i wish i had some good advice. well, actually i do...cry like there's no tomorrow..was honestly, grieving was the only thing that made me feel any relaxation. i still do on occasion when i look over at the blank wall..or down at my feet when playing piano..he'd always shuffle in and lay by my feet. he 'dug my sound'.. ![]() very sad day, as 12-19-07 was for me. you'll be in my thoughts today.. ![]()
