Rant: Wanker civil servants

So what's the deal with the sense of entitlement to the passing lane that off-duty civil servants seem to have?
Last night some douche in a 4-Runner with a fire department sticker on the rear window (don't get me started on those stickers; if they really meant anything anymore, Seattle must have at least 10,000 firemen) honked and flipped me the bird when I passed him on the right. He was going 2 under in the passing lane! Of course I'm going to pass on the right!
Fast forward to this morning on my way into work. Some some guy in a riced-out eclipse tried to cut across two lanes in front of me. I kept my pace even, figuring if he wants to get in front, he'll have to speed up. Well, at the last second, he decides I'm going too fast and he can't make it, and swerves back into the right lane. I think nothing of it, since Seattle drivers are generally this inept at merging. Well, ten seconds later he pulls up besides me and starts waving a badge at me. WTF does he want from me? I just SmileWavy and take my exit to work.
I've gotten this same treatment from people the city-owned Prius' also.

I wish there were some way to lodge a complaint about these people.

/end rant

I don't know what the hell is wrong with Seattle drivers, but I have never driven around so many wankers in my life. Sure, in Miami we have the worst drivers of all time, but at least they know where the accelerator pedal is and they use it (a LOT). I was driving 70mph in Seattle on a sunny day on a 3 lane freeway and I must have been going 25 over everybody else. What gives?

Seric 01-24-2008 11:54 AM

Sounds about right. Gotta love Seattle traffic.

Here in Chattanooga, the buses, utility, municipal and waste trucks literally race from light to light. You know, distances of maybe 100 yards on some stretches. I drive a little BMW most mornings, and while I normally don’t hot dog it, it does accelerate pretty nicely. These guys & girls literally will leave me just about standing still. Approaching the red lights, I start slowing by just lifting the accelerator, way before needing to brake. I mean, there are already 3-4 cars at the lights, why does anyone need to get there so quickly? It’s just a longer wait. They will fly right by still heavy on the gas. And then brake at the last second. The Buses? I know they are on a schedule, but my god, they drive like ****ing maniacs! It’s absolutely ridiculous! They could care less about how wasteful with the juice they are being, they don’t have to pay at the pump for it.

They drive with a manner of absolute impunity. It is as if they feel that everyone has to accommodate the manner in which they drive. All it is going to take is for someone to not be aware that this huge vehicle is bearing down on them and make the wrong move; it’ll all be over. It have become that bad around here. And It seems to be getting worse.

hpservertech 01-24-2008 12:13 PM

I've driven in Chattanooga and your right. It always seemed like it was a race to the next stoplight.

rammstein 01-24-2008 12:16 PM

Its all the hippies. Damn hippies. Their smug was really hurting my lungs too. :D

You ain't seen nothing until you've been on the HOV lanes here, where every other driver is a gov't. employee. Anyone who has a gov't-issued car cheats in the HOV lanes. We have entire roads that are HOV-only in all lanes, so there's really no escape if the cops catch you after the last bailout. Drives me nuts. And a lot of those robots drive in the left lane while everyone passes them.

Porsche-O-Phile 01-24-2008 12:27 PM

You guys have it easy.

Drive around L.A. / Southern CA for a while then you'll realize how good you have it.

Until then, you guys have nothing to b*tch about. NOTHING.

hpservertech 01-24-2008 12:34 PM

I have driven in different parts of CA. Northern parts they go slow in every lane....like to watch the trees I guess. Southern area's....if there isn't any traffic they drive 90 in every lane and even the shoulder sometimes.

Atlanta is bad too, actually worse then NYC I think.

chrisf 01-24-2008 12:37 PM

yeah.

I was into driving this one route every morning this time last year. About a mile from my house, there is about a mile section, maybe a total of 7 or 8 lights in all. And they were all out of sync. Light turns green, and get to just about the next intersection and it turns red. And over & over. Really weird.

At least 3 mornings a week, I would meet up with this total idiot, driving a city truck, a big Ford crew cab diesel with yellow lights on top. This guy would literature open it up at every green light, complete with loads of black smoke. CLACK-CLACK-CLACK-CLACL-CLACK-CLACK-CLACK-CLACK-VVVRRRROOOOOMMMMMMM!!!!!!!!!. All the way to the next light, and then SLAM on the brakes. After a nice little wait he’d take off again. He did this at every light. What made the whole thing funny was that after about the second week, I figured out that if you drove this entire section at about 15mph or so, you never had to stop. Hell, it got to the point to where I didn’t even need to use my brakes. It was truly a beautiful thing. I would roll right by him most times as he was chopping that throttle open. Next light, same thing. I could only imagine how angry he was to see me do this. He just never got it. Either that or he was actually getting his rocks of kickin’ that motor like that. A real man, he was.

I found another route after about 3 straight months of this.I think I’m going to take that route in the morning!!! See how my buddy is doing.

If you don’t hear from me, call the police!

So Graham What's your beef? Is it a problem with "Civil Servants" or piss poor drivers. Some of us who put our A$$e$ on the line daily to protect your butt don't necessarily appreciate the attack and generalization. Please clarify your issue!

gprsh924 01-24-2008 05:14 PM

His attack is on civil servants who are piss poor drivers.

I like chicago traffic, except when gridlock sets in. However, a lot of the time the bumper to bumper traffic flows at 10-20 over the speed limit. Its dangerous as hell and people cut you off left and right, but at least it moves

legion 01-24-2008 05:24 PM

Yawn.

I barely get up to 35 mph in my 2.5 mile commute.

Sometimes I see a city truck or a cop in the morning. Sometimes.

HardDrive 01-24-2008 08:04 PM

I have been in Seattle for 5 years. I lived in Boston, Milwaukee, Chicago, Detroit previously.

Seattle drivers aren't THAT bad, but they are irritating if you like to DRIVE. People frequently will drive the speed limit, and think nothing of doing so in the left lane. Its not that they don't know your there. Its just that they assume that everyone on earth is far more concerned with saving the rain forest than driving.

I had a run in with some pr!ck in a Prius a couple years ago. He is riding in the left lane going 60 mph on I-5! I come up on him going 80 and get on the brakes. I see him look in his mirror at me a couple times. I back off and wait for him to get over. But when there is room to his right, the doesn't get over. I fact he is still looking back at me, as if he is trying to prove a point. So I drop it down a gear and scream past him on the right. Sure enough, some aging liberal twat and his wife shouting at me because I didn't want to play the Happy Green Peace game that day. I flipped them the bird just as the variocam clicked over giving off that beautiful exhaust howl. It made my day!

Gogar 01-24-2008 08:56 PM

Well, whenever you encounter someone who is driving poorly, or like and *********, you should drive more aggressively, to show them you're a GOOD DRIVER and you care about THE RULES.

The only thing worse than $hitty drivers in the left lane?
YOU MOTHER HUMPERS who cram up behind them and tailgate them until they move to the right. Or when they don't move, SCREAM AROUND THEM AS FAST AS YOU CAN AND CUT THEM OFF, SO THEY'LL LEARN.

Stupid drivers are everywhere, and they drive ALL KINDS of cars, and they have Civil Service stickers, and they have TRUCKS, and they have PORSCHES, and KIAS and HONDAS, and CELL PHONES, and LUNCH. Deal with it. Rise above it. Don't add to it. Fcuking Screw you smart guys who actually think you're going to EDUCATE someone with your car. Are you kidding me? FCUK THAT. People fcking DIE when you think you need to TEACH SOMEONE A LESSON with your car.

WHEEEEEEW. Sorry, fellas. Just a sore spot for me.

LOL! My Dad continuously complains about "commute traffic" in Danville. I just smile and say "Yes Dad, terrible isn't it?":D:p

Sapporo Guy 01-25-2008 05:25 AM

I love the old ladies who floor the pedal and then level it out at 10 below the speed limit.
Why the hot foot????

The other one is where the older men, break slightly at intersections. ughhhhhhhhh
Driving safely is nice and all but not when every one isn't!

Or the nice folk who are very concerned about the traffic coming from the opposite direction but not from their right (errrr, left for the rest of the world). Does this make any sense?????

Superman 01-25-2008 08:46 AM

Seattle guys: One of the most foolish maneuvers I have ever seen was on I-5 going North around Michigan/Albro. There is an onramp that empties onto I-5 at the same spot as an offramp (Michigan, I think) begins. I saw a car come down the onramp, make about a 90-degree left turn, skidder across five lanes of traffic, and exit into Michigan. And the really scary thing is.......I have seen this done TWICE.

Yes, we've got a lot of passing-lane wankers here. But they're not mostly gubmit workers. Mostly, they are Republicans.

Danimal16 01-25-2008 09:00 AM

First of all they aren't "Civil Servants" these are the government workers. There is a D%$# difference. A Civil Servant doesn't use his or her position for selfish reasons, they get it that they are there to SERVE the PUBLIC. The Government Worker doesn't get it and he is no more or less arogant than similar types in the private sector. It is like calling a career military member a "lifer", there is a difference between the two as well. Rant on but don't single Civil Servants out.

And by the way, did you get the vehicle tag number and call the appropriate department head? It works and you should. Otherwise if you don't want to stand up or take the time, don't b@%^& about it. Take the time and bust their chops, its your money and they work for you!!!
Rant off.
