Jeff Smith Joins Trans AM Club
Jeff Smith aka Schmidt has left Peyton Place and has joined a Pontiac Trans Am Club just like he promised to do so long ago. I guess he just likes the Big Bird decal on the hood.
Peyton Place has a history of getting rid of people who don't quite fit the mold. Personally I wouldn't have known a thing if someone didn't whisper in my ear about the whole sorid mess over there. Sad, sad commentary on the state of the early car fraternity.

Anybody know of any 78-79 Trans Ams for sale, I know someone who is looking. Of course it doesn't really need to be a Trans Am he can make it look like one. Just slap a Big Bird decal on the hood and voila you have one...

Actually, I preferred the first year of the Trans-Am...what? 1969? I can't quite remember. (edit)
I recall driving one when new, it had the 400 engine. At the time, it was the best handling USA car I'd ever driven. Yes, I included Corvettes of the day in that list.

I drove a Formula Firebird quite a bit in the late 70's. I agree, it was the best handling US car at the time. The minimal graphics were also much more palatable.

Another little Bird has become curious as to what I think.
To tell U the truth I haven't visited Peyton Place in a long while, until a link to the current sorid little affair was presented to me. So I am in the dark as to what actually transpired and could at this point care less...YAWN. I just think its par for the course over there. For me the dogs have fallen asleep with regards to Peyton Place. However Jeff Smith has always been presented to me as a guy who knew his stuff back wards and forward. A go to guy. I can fully understand recreating a 72S, but to foster a belief that it is real is beyond me. It has to be done to impress others, because you know the truth of the matter. This goes to Jeff Smiths integrity and casts serious doubts upon it. I at one time considered him for a restoration of my 69 S, now I have doubt in my mind if I would even let him touch it let alone restore it. I personally am the type that will tell you the truth of the matter, I will represent what ever it is for what it is. I had a supposed Indian Police Shotgun that I posted on this Board. last year. When I found out it was a made up gun I told everyone that it was. I didn't hide the facts. I want the facts to match the reality. I do want to impress people, however it has to be real because if it isn't all I am doing is fooling you to boost my own ego under false pretenses and that just doesn't work very well.

Tim...that yours? Looking good, wherever the pic came from. The Z-28 Camaro is THE muscle collectable for that year...but for street driving? That trans-am, with it's 400 cubes, should have been faster than the Z-28.
Tabby? "Peyton Place"??? LOL! Only problem is, many who post here are too young to get the meaning.

Peyton Place is a reference to a SOAP OPERA...that is taking place on another Board for early P cars.

My parents used to watch Peyton Place. They never had a Trans Am, though. I had a '67 GTO; it was my first car.

My first NEW car? '65 GTO. Looking back, kind of wish I'd kept it. But back then, we thought music and cars could only get better. Boy were we wrong!

I bought mine in '77 at the ripe old age of 17. Post gas crisis, us gear head kids were buying these things for less than a grand, and in great shape to boot. If only my crystal ball were working back then...
