What if we Repealed the 12th Amendment?

The 12th changed the way Presidential Elections worked and put the party much more in control of our choice. What if things were back to the way they were originally drafted? Everyone gets 2 votes. The one with the most votes is president and the runner up is vice president. And to make this one the way it would really work, as a free for all, I'll throw back in some of the dropped out candidates.

All USA registered voters. Not registered or not a citizen, please don't vote.

Nope, you have to vote for 2 different people, and technically, one of them cannot be from the same state as you!

Hmmmmmmm. Would that void a possible Obama Clinton Pres/VP? They are both from Illinois? Or does it depend on where you are a resident?

real change would be pure one man one vote

and why not same day primary in all states
quaint new hammster always first with the vote
is not fair or just way to pick a leader

BTW yes I am pi$$ed off we in Fl get a no count vote today

we know who is running

You will never convince 3/4's of the states (which are mostly small) to give up the slight advantage they have in the Electoral College.

So, NYC, L.A., and other large cities would decide who wins? The folks living in smaller states might as well stay home?

The electoral college was formed to prevent that...what you suggest would make it so.

I am not suggesting doing away with the Electoral College, only the 12th Amendment, where the President and Vice President are effectively picked together.

The original language, each Elector had two votes. He had to vote for two different people, at least one had to be from a different state other than his own. Whoever had the most votes became the President, second most, vice president.

12th amendment changed so that each Elector is given one vote for President and one vote for Vice President. This way you always end up with a President and Vice President "on the same team", where as the original system almost always put an opposition vice president into office.

And again, we didn't vote for "President", we voted for an elector to cast a vote for us.
