All valid points - hard to argue.
This months Excellence really dug the GTS. Especially the 6-speed version.

A truly stupid article in my view.
The point the writer misses is that there is a market for these cars, and they make lots of money for Porsche. And it's money that allows a small player like Porsche to be as successful as it is. As for this tiresome rubbish about brand dilution - the current crop of sports cars being built by Porsche are the very best the company has ever built. WTF do these guys want? Air cooled engines? Jeez! Whenever I read this kind of tirade I look at what my Porsche shares are doing and have a quiet chuckle.

I believe his point revolves around the advertising campaign more than the profitability of the Cayenne. He states more than once that the company is making money and indeed jumped on the SUV bandwagon due to marketability.
Porsche is using the success of their sports cars to promote their sport utility when the author does not believe the GTS to be the best sport model it could be. He is obviously not impressed. I have not been in a Cayenne so I cannot state how 'sporty' they truly are, but it isn't hard to outsport the US offerings. My SUV drives like a log wagon. God forbid if I have to make a turn without braking. I have not seen the commercial but if they are comparing the Cayenne GTS to a Spyder than someone at Porsche is drinking drunk. The views of the author have been expressed by many on this board over the years. Porsche has heard the criticism and released the GTS to calm the crowd.

This guy has obviously never been in a Cayenne on a track! I really didn't have much of an opinion about it myself until I went to the Porsche Driving School. At the end of the day we got to do hot laps with the instructors in Carreras, GT3s, and the Cayenne Turbo. My god, I never thought a vehicle that big could perform that well! Going 130 into turn 3 at Barber motorsports park is something I'll never forget. Did it change my mind about the Cayenne. You bet! Would I ever buy one? No. It will never be a car for my or my family, But for certain people whi need a car that big I'd say go for it, even though you'll never use more then half it's potential!
