not going to retire just yet

Feb is my 20 year mark and I was scheduled to retire this summer. After a look at my family I have decided to stay in another 4 years so my three oldest can complete high school first. Big risk on my part when one considers the odds of me going back to the middle east, but I am more likely to hold a desk job even in that situation.

Down side, will be stuck in Montana for 4 more years!

just thought I would share.

I just want to say Thank you! for your commitment to the service.

I think you're making the right call...after a while it becomes more about the family.

I decided to retire this year (25 years) for much the same reason...I was looking at a move to California, which is simply too far to commute to on the weekends:eek: I will have two kids in high school next year, my wife has a great career in a critical area of technology and I am looking forward to the next set of opportunities:)

Congratulations on 20 years of service. Outstanding!

Thank you for your service! You deserve a nice retirement after 4+ years in Great Falls!!!

Agreed, to both of you.

Paul, I didn't know you retired. What's next on the agenda?

k9handler 01-31-2008 08:44 AM

thanks fellas, even then I will be 42 at retirement so I can work on a 2nd retirement.

speeder 01-31-2008 08:55 AM

Thank you for your service. What the heck do they have you doing in MT.?

911Rob 01-31-2008 08:58 AM

Yes, I thank-you too!
Wish you could retire now, but you're probably making the right call.
My brother went through the same agony at his 20 year mark.
He chose retirement, now he works for the UN.
He always talks about retirement, but he just took a post in India for 3 years?
Nother story........ (his)

Anyway, good Luck buddy, keep your chin up and watch your 6.

Both of you deserve alot for spending even ONE winter in Montana....

Joe

(who used to live in Helena and knows how cold Montana is in winter)

frogger 01-31-2008 10:19 AM

BTW, how's your dog enjoying retirement? :)

cgarr 01-31-2008 10:24 AM

Retirement is good, then you can do those fun jobs, you beat me to it, I have 1 year and 2 months to go, for some reason they say I have to be 50 plus 1 month then the fun begins. But I will keep working but its going to be a lot more fun..

He is great! Just his medical condition is progressing so he may not make it much longer. Good thing is he is not in pain, just nerve damage is causing him to lose control of his hind quarters.

frogger 01-31-2008 10:30 AM

Sorry to hear about his having nerve damage. Is that a line-of-duty injury? Hope his health holds up. Post dog pics. We all like dog pics, well, maybe not the two-legged breed. ;)

no it's just a German Sheppard thing much like the hip dysplasia cases.

Hey Smitty, which one is your retiree buddy? All are great looking dogs. I almost came close to acquiring a rescue dog, but the wifey just can't warm up to the idea of have a critter running around our condo.

A few more years in Montana sounds like an eternity, Smitty, unless you've finally discovered the location of the Fountain of Youthful Babes. :D

k9handler 01-31-2008 10:56 AM

Rex is the one with me, and as for the fountain...no such luck.
