Television Wall Mount Options

So I finally bought a new TV. My wife and I want to put it on a wall mount that pulls out from the wall and can swing right to left so that we can put the TV in the corner of the room. After picking up the TV I went to Sears and the only wall mount that I found cost $300.00! I figured before I spend $300 on a mount I would ask you guys if you know of any mounts that are decent quality and hopefully don't cost so much. I checked ebay but I hate to buy stuff off of ebay. Anybody have a TV wall mount that they would recommend?

The TV is a 40" Sony Bravia

Thanks,
Shawn

The mounts for these things just seem to be expensive. I suspect because they are heavy and having them able to support the TV with the arm extended and also stable when articulated requires sturdy thought out construction.

Think about it this way. You've got an expensive item hanging at the end of a rod. Would you rather pay $300 for one that's really sturdy, or $100 for one that's questionable.

I didn't blindly buy a cheap mount from ebay for the reasons that you pointed out. I just thought maybe someone had bought a mount that they were pleased with for less than $300 or had bought one for $300 that they were really happy with?

Have you tried Home Depot or Lowes? Picked up my last wall mount there and it was a lot less than $300 and was still professional.

If your TV is a flat screen it's really not that difficult to make a recess in the wall for installing and it really looks good.

The only thing that I thought about was what's gonna happen when the next latest and greatest thing in TV's comes along and it won't fit in the current recess!

I had to buy the most expensive one they had at Best Buy because I wanted it to be able to both tilt and swing left/right. About $250. I will say it is quite robust!!!

Unfortunately the TV is going in the corner of the room so recessing it in the wall is not an option (my wife won't let me put it over the fireplace).

Thanks for all the tips everybody I am sure I will find something that will work through one of the recommendations.

I just saw two models from Costco. It comes with shelves and you can mount your TV 3 ways.

Hard to explain until you see the units.

BTW, my Bravia lasted 6 months. Hopefully, you won't have any issues with yours.

Bought a Panasonic plasma to replace the Sony.

I thought about just making a mount but I already have enough projects going to keep me busy for a while.

I am thinking about checking out this one from the link Aurel posted:

Thanks for the Costco tip I'll check it out. I hope this TV lasts longer than six months but I guess if it breaks at least I can reuse the mount which will probably end up costing about the same as the TV

Shawn,

Do not go to the TV section. Go to the furniture section. IMO, the 2 new units are a bargain and cost, I think, almost as much as a 'stand alone' mounting bracket. I have a 50" plasma and have been thinking about buying the 'furniture unit.'
