super bowl coin toss
Fellow Pelican enthusiasts,
You can put a face with my log in, My sister and I have been selected to be part of the coin toss ceremony, along with Jerry Rice ,Steve Young and Ronnie Lott. The coin toss is dedicated to my late father Bill Walsh, Who was a Porsche guy from 1974-till his end. He started with a 1971 914, I was sneaking it out in hill of La Jolla California when I was 15, When He went to work for 49ers, part of his contact called for a new "loaner" every year. so in 1978 we had a Euro spec SC from Rector Porsche in Burlingame CA. I was now 18 and the rear end will come around if you panic, we moved on into the Carrera's in the early 80's rubber centered clutches come apart if you downshift to quickly....we finally phased into a 928s4 , tensioner lights come on if are always standing on it...Don't get me wrong, my Dad loved to drive Porsche's fast also, I learned everything from HIM! As he was deteriorating, I would take him to Stanford hospital in my prepared 1975 Carrera. Keeping the rev's down below 5000, It would still bring a smile to his face |

WOW! This is really cool. Your dad was a great man and will always be remembered for the joy he brought with the teams he coached. Even though I grew up in New Orleans and had to endure him whipping my beloved Saints year in and year out in the old NFC West, I always respected the way your dad carried himself on and off the field.
I had the honor of watching him win his last Super Bowl (XXIII) in person! |

Hearing that your father was a Porsche guy makes me respect him even more. Thanks for filling us in on a part of his life that we were not aware of. I will be watching on Sunday.

Awesome! It was funny to read a young person's perspective on what happens to cars when they're hot-rodded. LMAO!
I'm glad you could bring a smile to your dad's face with your car. It brought back memories of what I would do for my mom and dad when they were dying (a decade apart). ![]()

Craig, your dad was a great man and a great coach. I grew up idolizing the Niners. He not only mentored the players, but some great coaches came from his guidance. I am sorry for what your family has had to go thru with your brother and father falling from leukemia. I will be looking for you on the field!

Wow...that is terrific that you will be there representing your family, the 9ers and the NFL. Condolences on the loss of you dad, also. As a big NFL and lifelong football fan, he always had
my utmost respect as one of the very top coaches ever. I love watching some of the NFL films clips where he is talking to his team in the meetings.....like the one time when the Rams were talking stuff all week and Coach Walsh tells his team, let them talk we are going to kick their butts cause we are frankly better than they are. Lol... the other memorable clip is that he had the 49ers practicing "the catch" play, Sprint Option with the high throw into the back of the endzone to Clark all year, just getting it ready for when they needed it...and when the time came they had it down and it happened just like they drew it up. Now that is coaching! Anyway, you father was much respected and much beloved. Its great to hear that your family was into P-Cars too. Enjoy your time at the SB and we will look for you pregame. |

Very cool. I always liked and respected your dad - a hell of a coach. Nice to find out he liked Porsches too. I'll be looking for you next Sunday, have fun. Go Pats.

Wow, wonder what other well know figures or their kin are on this board.
You father devastated some Cowboy fans including me with the catch. I moved to the Bay Area in the mid 80s for high school and quickly became a fan, I actually take pleasure in seeing the Cowboys fail. Any way, as you know, your dad was a class act.

Your dad was the greatest coach ever and the epitome of class! I'm happy the NFL decided to have you both take part in this great event, as it is well deserved for all he brought to the sport and the 49er organization.

Thanks for sharing this info with us. Very cool. As a native San Franciscan and lifelong Niner fan, your father was one of my biggest heroes, right up there with Willie Mays, and the great Niners. It's nice to know he was a Porsche guy.
