Satecmo Eolia 1954

André George Claude was an engineer, who decided to devote his time in designing and building a high performance French car.

The Berlinetta style body was designed by Eiffel and was made out of magnesium with Claudes company Satecmo, building the car and mounting the 4-cyl 850cc engine from a Renault 4CV centrally in the rear of the car, mated to a 5-speed transmission of his own design. Access to the engine compartment was provided by opening rear quarter panels.

Interestingly, the steering wheel was located on the right hand side as this was Claude's preferred option for driving. The engine in 1960 was later to be replaced by a tuned engine from a Renault Dauphine Gordini.

Claude's innovative design was offered to Renault, but there was no interest in producing it and so the car exists as a one-off special.

Thank you. I had no idea such a thing existed. It's not real pretty, and they claim to racing prowess seems dubious.

When porsche930dude post #45332 came up with the APAL in between a Mustang-Rod I thought it was a Abarth-Porsche that I've never seen before, so I did an image search. New to me as well.

At Le Mans in 1960 the car on display saved Porsche’s honor by being the only factory entry to finish…and by winning its class. Not only was the new Italian-bodied Carrera faster than the German original, it was one of the best-looking cars yet to come out of Stuttgart.
