I think it had moved in the early 80s and I remember them putting down temporary track and pulling it along. Took a few days to get there. It is apparently too far gone for restoration and it sits enclosed in a fenced area. I remember as a kid you could climb all over the darn thing along with the Tanks by the Scarcee barracks and the Hawker by Tecumseh. CN had an engine and vintage cars in service a few years ago but not sure if it is still running. It was stored in the private rail car facility downtown and was able to tour it a few years back. |

Aérotrain was developed in France in the early 60's as a possible answer to Europe's need for mass-transit. The name comes not from the streamlined shape, but from the fact that the Aérotrain road along its track on a cushion of air. In fact, the train was more of a plane since it used the power of ground effect to fly along at speeds up to 140 miles per hour.
