Piper Enforcer. Piper Aircraft's bid for a ground attack plane for the USAF in the early 80's. Based on the North American P-51, two prototypes were built but the Air Force didn't go for it. What a shame.

Yeah, the PA48...nice plane but shared only 10% of Mustang components. Powered by a Lycoming engine. USAF didn't like it. Two prototypes are still around.

Wonder why it wasn't offered to the other services or to export.....

They were built in Lakeland FL at the Piper plant. I took a tour of the place in the early '80's and saw one of these ^ sitting in the corner being worked on. I think the A-10 really killed this plane.

Huh, the 914 was sold as a VW as well? I assume it was the same engine as the 914 as I thought that was VW engine. What was the difference, the interior?
