I could, no problem. Although it might be tough to squeeze down the salad and other stuff, I could probably do that too.

When I do eat, I have an appetite that doesn't quit, and even I don't know where I put it all.

Despite the claims of our local "Mr. Bills" restaraunt about no one ever finishing thierGigantic Burger in 30 minutes, I have done it.
Once.

It may be short but it's not very big around:D

My question is who are all the other restaurant patrons? The thought of eating in a restaurant where the guy at the next table has a puke bucket at his feet is disgusting!

I have been there, you do have an hour to eat everything. Shrimp cocktail, salad, potatoes, a very tough, unseasoned, low-quality(not a normal STEAK cut of meat)4-1/2 pound piece of meat, dinner rolls, and dessert. The last time I was there, it cost $59.00, if you failed to eat ALL, in one hour. They really do not want you to leave the table for the restroom, because they are afraid that some will eat all they can, go to the restroom, PUKE, then come back and eat more, then back to the restroom, PUKE...etc. They make you puke in the trash can at the table, if you do... you LOOSE. If you explode out the other end...you REALLY LOOSE!!

So why dont they say? You have a pic of this thing?

svandamme 02-10-2008 10:28 AM

i could probably pull it off, but i'de be sick afterwards
frankly i'de rather pay 50 bucks for 18 ounce steak i can finish without indigestion then trying to eat a 72 ounce steak for free and huffing and puffing to pack it down, just so i can get it for free

You've got to know this place is a huge tourist trap. It is right on I-40 the old route 66 and gets all the traffic from Cali to back east. They have stuffed critters on the walls, and a bunch of live rattlesnakes in cages typical things people probably imagine is Texas. I'd bet 90% of their clientelle are not locals. There are billboards on the highway 500 miles away that say Free 72 ounce steak Big Texan etc.

I have a friend that ate 29 pieces of fried chicken at a sitting. That's tight, 29 pieces of Popeyes! He'd laugh in their faces!

Do you get the option of how this 72-ounce steak is cooked? Rare, medium, well?
If it's prepared rare, I'd get it down with no problem.

In the early '80s, outside of Amarillo (it think, I was going from Lubbock to Amarillo to Pampa), we stopped at the "Three Theives". Our plane had to land at Lubbock due to weather. We rented a car and had a race to Amarillo with a few other guys in our rent cars (loser to buy dinner for the winners).

Great steaks. They had the same deal. Giantic steak, free if you ate it with all the trimmings in an hour or less. Wonder if this is hte same place or related.

Thnaks for the memory.

Shula's puts your name on a plaque for 48 ozs. I had a 32 oz but I skipped veggies, potato, appetizer etc. And I still felt like a serious pig.

HarryD. What in the world were you going to Pampa for? I've lived there for the last 28 years. Yawn. But some very great roads to stretch Porsche legs.

HarryD 02-10-2008 03:51 PM

My former employer had a plant in Pampa (and Wichita Falls) which I needed to visit. It was a one time deal.

I ate there. We were on a family road trip home from UT when I was about eight years old. At that time they had this huge buffalo head mounted on a wall and there was a speaker hidden in its mouth. Unbeknownst to me at the time, our server had pulled my mom aside and asked her a few questions about me. Later when I was staring up at the buffalo head, it began to speak to me. It knew my name, asked me if I missed my best friend Kevin, if I missed our bassett hound, etc. I was floored. My parents were howling. I can't remember when they told me how that worked, but that was a dinner I'll never forget.

Les Paul 02-10-2008 04:55 PM

Rick, cool story. I took my kids there one time without my wife. She wouldn't go there because of all the hype and we had an hour to kill before we picked her up from a business trip at the nearby airport. They had some kind of contest about eating jalapeno peppers. My daughter who was probably 10 at the time won 25 dollars. My kids loved the place.
