Do You Think You Could Eat The Whole Thing?

I was in Amarillo Texas this week. We stopped in at the Texan restaurant for dinner. They have a 72oz steak that you can have for free provide you eat the whole thing along with baked potatoes, a dinner roll, a salad and some dessert. I ended up going with the 16oz Prime Rib, had them grill it. The food was OK, we had a better steak at the Texas Roadhouse.

I looked at the list of the people able to do it and the majority of the people that did it were over 250lb but there was one kid (18 yr old) from Australia that only weighed 180lbs.

I will say this; I bet I could do it. I didn’t do it the night we were there because we had a huge lunch. But on a good day I think I could do it. Still, that’s a lot of beef in your bowel!

BTW – if you don’t finish it, you have to pay $72 dollars.

Yet another example of American overindulgence.

I've gotten down a 48 oz Prime Rib at Jerrys Nugget ONCE! That was enough for me thanks, I just stick to the 28 ozer now.

An appropriate serving would be 4 ozs.

Along with drinks, potato, salad, bread and a small dessert.

Spend a good thirty minutes eating your meal.
Anyone should be satisfied.

I'd had my share of HUGE meals. I always feel awful and have to go lay down.
No more.

The Big Texan is only 50 miles from where I live. That place is a major tourist trap and always seems to be busy. We've tried it numerous times over the last 30 years and still don't know what the hype is.

Aren't there over 8,000 of over 40,000 that have tried it and done it? It is an amazing #. I have a hard time with a 12 ounce steak.

For a fat guy I'm a small eater. I never order more than an eight ounce steak and I cannot understand how people can eat two big burgers, etc..

I have a buddy that's in great shape and eats two double whoppers for lunch plus a large fry. This is insane to me.

pfht...I could eat the steak, but the salad, roll, and dessert would be my downfall.

I picture this being the outcome (no pun intended) more often than not...

I'm 5'10" and 175-185.

maybe 10 years ago, I used to eat 2 double whoppers, a large curly fry and a chocolate shake for lunch once per week.

Are you allowed a bathroom break in the middle? I'm not sure I'd have room for that even if I had 16 hours to do it.

Flatbutt1 02-07-2008 02:55 PM

thats a weeks worth of food for me

I ate the biggest beef steak they offer at T-Bones in Vegas; I think it was 32 oz? Tabs?
Anyway, that was painful.

I'd have to pass on the 72 ouncer. ;)

No for this Canuck.

Some people should not as if they can... but if they should.

The was a Texas Roadhouse next to my hotel in Kentucky... really good steaks and chops. Do the waiters and waitresses dance at all of them? At first I thought it was a little corny but after awhile it was kind of cute.

Anyone in So Cal remember Belle Isle restaurant in the 1980's? Ugly pink building at the Corner of Chapman and Harbor. Insane food portions. Great food too, but so much was wasted. Order a sweet roll and get a serving for 5 people.

They had an "eat it all - it's free" Texas breakfast if I recall. Huge steak, a dozen eggs and a mountain of harsh browns....

A few friends and I would stop there occasionally for grub after attending Angels ballgames. Alway seemed busy, but I think they closed up at least 15 years ago.

My memory is foggy so facts may be off, plus I never went there sober! ;)

That's not a steak. That's a roast!

vash 02-07-2008 05:07 PM

what cut of meat is that? it would suck if it was tough, and "liver-y", and then have to eat the entire thing. i personally like to have a small, thick cut new york cut, med rare...pass the coleslaw and beans please.

no way, i could eat a slab like that, not even when i was young and bottomless.

Tobra 02-07-2008 05:30 PM

I don't have to think, I know I could.

There was a place near Dobbin on 105 that had a similar deal, porterhouse or ribeye, can't remember. I think you have to finish in an hour, or something like that

Pygmy! Why I'll have you know that thumb has found its way up my butt more than I care to comment! The teachers used to say "Boy, whats wit you? You got your thumb up yo ass or sump'n?"

Besides, its not that the thumb is a stubby, just that the fingers are L O N G...

Tobra 02-07-2008 06:18 PM

I think it is more of a perspective thing, like holding the fish out in front of you to make it look bigger in the picture

Holly health horror! That is over 2 kilograms!
