linkedin

With all this advice and "connections" we build here @PPOT
how about making a group on LinkedIn, and really organize these connections?

or would that be a stupid idea?

slodave 02-10-2008 10:00 PM

online tool for "professional" networking
i got on in when i left my former company, to keep in touch with former colleagues ,

slodave 02-10-2008 10:08 PM

Stijn, sent you an invite.

svandamme 02-11-2008 01:39 AM

got it !

was kinda slow to notice, don't get my PP mail notifications at work
so didn't put 2 and 2 together when i got it in linkedin

azasadny 02-11-2008 03:15 AM

Stijn,
I use Linkedin, I'll send you an invitation...

Tishabet 02-11-2008 04:38 AM

I use LinkedIn a lot, a PPOT group seems like a cool idea.

MBAtarga 02-11-2008 05:51 AM

I'm in LinkedIn already.

svandamme 02-11-2008 06:46 AM

Thing is , it's one thing to fire up a group
but Linkedin has to approve it , they don't let any bunch of hippies form a potsmoking group

then there's also the Pelican name, i don't want to start something up, that spins off Pelicanparts, without prior approval of Wayne

even if it's PPOT, it's still "Pelicanparts" and that's still Wayne's

so Wayne, what you think about all this?

930LDR 02-11-2008 06:56 AM

I use linkedin and agree its a nice tool. The key though is to keep it professional otherwise if you just keep adding people for the sake of adding people it becomes no different than a grown up version of myspace.

RickM 02-11-2008 07:30 AM

It's the best network for securing professional opportunities out there.

JTO 02-11-2008 08:06 AM

I'm on linkedin in a minor way. Thought it might help my consulting business.

Interesting ...
Definitely would like Wayne's approval ... but would wonder if he has the time to also monitor something else ...

I'm interested!

Do you have to get an invite?

yeah, that's what i figured so far

but the group thing would kinda of make it possible, to add a big pool of everything, without having to add up everybody from PPOT

you know, it would lower the threshold if you know the other guy is PPOT too

i supposed no different from what freemason's or all the other service clubs do :D, albeit less formal

930LDR 02-11-2008 09:53 AM

I guess I would be open to joining such a group as long as when other contacts view my profile they don't see 100 PPOT names listed. No offences guys... just trying to keep my contact / connection list fairly tight.

svandamme 02-11-2008 10:03 AM

nah, that's not how it works

you join a group, then some group functionality opens
you don't automatically get any new contacts with the group membership

azasadny 02-11-2008 12:51 PM

LinkedIn got me several interviews and lets me keep track of the ex-Ford IT people I used to work with. I have found the service to be valuable and useful!

A lot of us are and have been on LinkedIn for years.
