I spent 4 hours last night making my red pasta sauce. I guess it'll be Italian again.

RE: The Victoria secret or any other fancy sleep wear... I thought this was a great idea... WRONG fortunately I wanted to make sure it was something it the right size and material (before I embarrass myself walking into a Victoria's secret at the mall) so I coyly start asking her questions as to her preferences...

Well, fugetabout! After an hour or so of kicking the idea around it became painfully obvious that I am somewhat lacking in the knowledge of female finery.

All is not lost however, we decided the best way to proceed would be for us to go shopping together so she could try things on to make sure they are comfortable. The more I thought about it it seems like a really, really... really good idea!

RE: Tomorrow... she says she doesn't want anything AND she wants to cook me dinner... I offered to take her out to the restaurant where we had our first date but she declined. I'm still going to pick up a small plant/flowers/bauble... uh... tonight... that should be fun.
(This is our first V-day together)

Note: You married guys probably know how to pick out clothing for you significant other but I am hopelessly lost on this subject.

This is the 10th year in a row that I host a dinner party for my wife and five other couples - usually on the Saturday closest to Valentine's Day. I do everything including menu planning, setting the table, selecting the wines, doing the shopping and cooking. Don't let anybody else bring anything - that way you get ALL of the credit. This started with me just doing dinner for my wife, but her friends found out wanted to get into the act as well. Buy some trinket do-dads for the women and you'll be pleased with the result.

The surest way without her knowing is "Panty Raid"

Sapporo Guy 02-13-2008 09:32 AM

Clothing is difficult ... one screw up and she'll be like "wow! thanks!" ....
Her mental note :: he's got absolutely no fashion sense ... I'd rather be caught dead at the door without makeup !

Bring a picture with you to the store and have the chicks there help you out!

Don't ask about sizes ... just raid her panty/bra drawer ... or do a spy check while she's in the bath ;)

I got away with buying an outfilt last year (totally not my girl) and just told her this is my image. Once again watch out for bad fashion sense ... this is highly risky.

An idea would be, make her a hand written gift certificate card "redeemable while shopping with me !" Then make a blood oath that you will spend the time going through the whole mall with her, if not 2 malls.

If nothing else you'll get brownie points for being a "trooper"

The only thing embarassing about Victoria's Secret is asking for a matching garter belt and stockings ;) Go straight to Fredricks ... they'll assume you there to buy such things anyways :D

hmmm, almost forgot!

The body Shop! Nice soaps and essence oils!

Sapporo Guy 02-13-2008 09:34 AM

Dang it!

Doug got his post in before I did!

lolo, you could just wipe out her old stock and replace it with newer stuff. Just leave a few for ... you fill in the blank!

VINMAN 02-13-2008 09:36 AM

Valentines Day is evil.....

hook682 02-13-2008 09:39 AM

Rob - sounds perfect; but don't JUST limit it to V-Day - surprise your ladies (especially Lynn) by cooking a candlelight dinner (or just dinner) every so often; when the whim takes you - remember it's often the littlest, most simple things that are the most enjoyable and memorable.

Cheers,

Lisa

Lisa, you are a special lady indeed. I'm sure you know that I mean that in the best sense possible. :)

scottmandue 02-13-2008 09:42 AM

Well, here was the problem... after a few questions I was down to Size Large, Black, cotton, bikini shorts

I'm like "hey... cool... no problem... I'll hit the mall on my way over to her place and buy her a box of um!"

Out of curiosity I go to the Victoria's website to see how much this is going to set me back... do a search on large,black,cotton,bikini shorts... and got a page full of options.

Beside I like the idea of her modeling them for me. ;)

911Rob 02-13-2008 10:45 AM

I'm great at buying my wife clothes.
She just doesn't wear any of them ;)

OK Lisa, you have had a postive influence on me!
My wife cooked a fantastic dinner tonight for the family; ah, so good.
Then she ran out the door to her dance class, so I did up all the dishes and cleaned the kitchen spotlessly for her. She was happily impressed when she got home all tired. :D

Between you and Motions influences, I just might get some brownie points ;)

Goodie - at least I'm a positive influence on someone....;).

Aah - the clothing thing. You guys are terrific to be trying so hard, but it's really tough to buy the right thing that fits. No manufacturer sizings are the same from one to the other and even each manufacturer doesn't always size the same across the range. I can be one size in say jeans and then try another style by the same brand and need to go up (or down) by one or even two sizes. It's not easy for you guys...and I mean that sincerely.

As for making the right choice on clothing - well Mike and I have been married for 17 years in a couple of weeks and really, he can't shop for me. Our 15yo ratbag son Tom (teenagers are really not fun) is much better at it. He knows my size and taste down pat - Mike usually defers to Tom when wanting to go shopping for wifey :D..unless of course it's car related stuff he's buying me then he does OK.

To you fellas who take over the kitchen and entertaining for the evening - you can come by my place anytime :D! I love it - as long as you clean up afterwards ;).

Paul - I'm not so special. Just pragmatic and pleased mostly by the little things in life. Too often we're all so busy we don't take note of the little things - they are often the most sweet, especially when they are done with love :).

911Rob 02-13-2008 01:28 PM

XXL always fits me just fine.
Whatz up wit yoo women?

911Rob 02-13-2008 01:30 PM

oh yeah, and one more thing....... none of my clothes EVER make my butt look big. ???

Flatbutt1 02-13-2008 03:25 PM

I never have an issue with what to do. I do the same thing year after year...I just do it with a different woman each year!:D

72doug2,2S 02-14-2008 04:09 AM

Oh *****, it's here.

It's Valentine's Day?!? Man, all day I've been telling people "Happy Victory in Europe Day". I really need to start putting more detail into my day planner entries...

From one of my pilot friends. My guess is that he is not going to get lucky on either day...

~~~~~
A Great New Holiday Concept!
Every 14th of February you get the chance to display your fondness for your wife or girlfriend by showering her with gifts, flowers, dinner, shows and any other baubles that women find romantic.
Secretly...guys feel left out. That's right...left out. There's no special holiday
for the ladies to show their appreciation for the men in their lives. Men as a whole are either too proud or just too embarrassed to admit it. This is why a new holiday has been created.
March 20th is now officially 'Steak, Blow job & Shut the F... Up Day.' Simple, effective and self-explanatory. ..this holiday has been created so your ladies can have a day to show your man just how much you love him.
No cards, no flowers, no flashy gifts, no special nights on the town. The name of the holiday explains it all...just a steak, a BJ, & shut your mouth for the rest of the day! That's it!
This twin pairing of Valentine's Day and 'Steak, Blow job & Shut the F... Up Day’ will usher in a new age of love as men everywhere will try THAT much harder in February to ensure a more memorable March! It's like a perpetual love machine.
The word is already spreading, but as with any new idea, it needs a little push to start the ball rolling. So spread the word, and help bring love and peace to this crazy world.
