Two reasons. I have a decent immune system and I have a good understanding of how they decide what strain to target and think it is more than somewhat ridiculous.

I will say it again, I have had the "flu" once, 15 years ago when I got the flu shot. They always say, you can't get the flu from the vaccine. While it may be unlikely, "they" are mistaken. You probably would diminish the likelihood of catching something more by washing your hands more often than getting the shot. How many times a day do you wash your hands Markus? I do it like every 10-15 minutes all day long, between every patient.

There is no free lunch, just because are not aware of how you are paying for it does not make it free.

I had it a couple weeks ago - spent 7 days in bed.

Never. Dries out my beautiful smooth hands, of paramount importance in my line of work as a fluffer.

I am with Tobra on this one. My family all gets flu shots, but the one time I got one, about 10 years ago, I got worked.

I haven't had the flu (except the brown bottle kind) since then.

I take Airborne before flying, and wash my hands frequently when traveling (which is about 80% of the time fore work).

Sorry to hear you got so sick.

Bill

Not being facetious but you can test positive for the flu?? What is the test? How long does it take to get results?
I had something similar once I got back from Daytona. It looks like a common denominator is a lot of sleeping, as was with me also. I just grinned, (not really), and bared it.

waterless hand wash perhaps?

I use a lot of pricey emollients frequently, lucky I get samples:)

Funny I have been k.o.ed by the flu also. No flue shot. Monday temp was 105, and I was shivering. I'm a lot better today.

red-beard 02-13-2008 04:37 PM

I have the shot every year, but the strain going around was not covered. Many people in the office have been sick, and most miss about a week of work.

azasadny 02-13-2008 06:20 PM

Lube,
Hope you're feeling better! The flu is no fun at all, I'd rather have leprosy...

nostatic 02-13-2008 06:29 PM

I can feel it starting right now. Bastards at work have had it and kept coming into the office. I gotta get over it because in 8 days I'm on a plane for HK. The last thing I want is to be sick for that marathong...

Yup - it was a nasel swab. The Nurse stuck a Q-tip up each nostral and rooted around. The test took two minutes. They had me where a face mask out of the office. If that was neg, then she would have taken a throat culture and tested for strep.

Years ago it would have taken a few days to culture a swab, now its minutes - gotta love science.

I get the shot every year - had pneumonia a few times. I have bad lungs I guess. I don't think the vaccine gives you the flu I just think that there are so many variations that when you do get sick its becuase you exposed yurself to one of the strains your not inoculated for or developed a resistence from.

I think that there is prolly only 4 ways for a virus to get to you - by mouth, by eyes, by nose and by blood. Its easy not to have it get into your blood, but your eyes, nose and mouth are near impossible.

livi 02-13-2008 06:58 PM

So I guess the back door is still safe..

911nut 02-16-2008 10:37 AM

I'm not surprised that all of you that have received flu shots got sick.
Before the flu vaccine is produced there is an "educated" guess made of what virus will be around. Sometimes they don't get it quite right, like this year apparently.

Cornpanzer 02-16-2008 11:24 AM

Got it right now. My office has been overwhelmed with it for the past two weeks and I have managed to stay ouot of there until last monday when I had to go in for meetings. My GM was hacking like a fiend and sure enough I came down with it on Thurs.
The good news is that it hasnt floored me like most everyone else. I can at least function around the house.

I dont get sick very often, but this winter I have had strep and now this flu. Sucks!

Glad to see that you are forging ahead with your chosen profession! Photos when you can, fluffing up all those ladies who are getting ready for their "action" call! :)

Tobra 02-17-2008 04:25 PM

Lubie, you misunderstand. I got the shot, and then got sick immediately afterward, for all appearances due to the shot. Never had it before or since.

Wow no kidding. Thanks for the reply.
