Just Spent the last 5 Days in Bed with the Flu

I haven't been this sick in a long long time. Last Friday I knew I had something, went to the Doctors and I was tested positive for the flu. My boss sent me home and I started taken Tamaflu and Musinex. I had the flu shot but there seems to be a few strains going around.

I guess I got the strain that isn't interested in my shot history or what pills I'm taking. I slept for 22 a day for 3 days. I'm just now starting to get back at it.

Man - if this isn't a form of bio-terrorism it should be!

I'm not gonna say who I'd rather spend five days in bed with. Mike? Hope you are feeling better..

Ugh.

I haven't been that sick in ten years. I don't get the flu shot either.

I know I will get that sick again some day, but I hope it's not for another ten years.

jyl 02-12-2008 06:41 PM

That sounds bad. Glad you are better, hopefully?

This is turning out to be a pretty bad cold and flu season, I hear.

I got sick last Wednsday, flying home from SF. Worked from home Thu, dragged myself in for a half-day on Fri, in bed most of Sat and Sun, suffering at work Mon and Tue, still feel bad. Everyone at work is sick. Yuck.

Only time I ever got the flu was the only time I got the flu shot. Apparently they guessed wrong and there are some strains around the vaccine does not cover this year

Drink plenty of liquids, I like green tea with honey and lemon when I am sick. I figure vitamin C and the magic of honey, you can't go wrong.

Hope your feeling 100% soon.
I had a touch of the flue this year too; happens about every third year for me.

Glad you're back up and around.

Never done the flu shots.

Guy I am with overseas has what you have and has been down for 3 days now but feeling better the last 12 hours.

speeder 02-12-2008 09:02 PM

I got a flu shot 2 weeks ago, I guess that I was already getting sick because it activated in me(?) and I was then as sick as I've ever been with the flu. Did not leave my apt. for 2 days, I mean not even stepped out in the hallway. Baaaad.....

Still getting over it, but feeling a lot better. Went down to the beach today for some exercise, that and eating good food helps speed the recovery. This is one nasty year for the flu, nearly everyone I know has been sick.

Bad luck, Mike. Sorry to hear you fell THAT ill! I have never taken any flu shots. I think they are for the elderly and those with chronic diseases in the heart and lungs. Although on a larger scale national economics would probably gain from most people having shots.

This year the National Health Board of Sweden got a vaccine that only covers about half of the influenza strains and the once that go around are harsher than last year.

I believe the best proactive remedy is a large healthy doses a strong alcohol every day. :D

Thanks for clearing that up, Doc!

If Lubby took more of those Happy Pills he wouldn't have felt a thing.

austin552 02-13-2008 04:35 AM

Why don't you guys just take the shot? There free at my work. Haven't had the flu in five years now.

frogger 02-13-2008 04:39 AM

I've had a flu shot for the past 5-6 years. No flu during that time, but knock on wood.

Tim Walsh 02-13-2008 04:42 AM

Ugg, sounds like you got what I got(been to NC lately?) Knocked me out for about 4 days and still felt like death warmed over for the next week. Don't overdo it, it sure kicked my butt.

Have not had the flu for at least 15 years despite no shots and I am surrounded by a virtual viral zoo every day. Maybe that is it. Very rarely real sick, but seldom fully well either.

cstreit 02-13-2008 06:07 AM

I got it too. I think it had actually been brewing for several weeks as every 3rd day I'd feel really run down... Then Monday last week it hit me hard. Not 22 hours of sleep a day hard, but very miserable. Then my 3 yr. old caught it. Nothing like having the flu and taking care of a sad grumpy little kid with it also. :(

When I went to the drugstore I noticed the lines to the pharmacy were longer than I'd ever seen them....

Rikao4 02-13-2008 06:09 AM

Well Lube, I just had the same..sleep, and more sleep.
Flu shots, years ago I gave these to my fellow soldiers..interesting to note
Label said...NOT INTENDED FOR GENERAL PUBLIC ,
most of us Medic's took a Saline shot , or passed !
