Craigslist: Cement Blocks

Cement Blocks for sale on craigslist.

A good example of why Craigslist is great AND why it sucks.

Porsche-O-Phile 02-13-2008 07:43 AM

LOL!

Honest post. I actually applaud that guy.

Unfortunately you pretty much need to word your postings that way on CL to avoid all the time-wasters, tire-kickers and other dumbf*cks that will do nothing but infuriate you and waste your time.

URY914 02-13-2008 07:49 AM

Nice guy. A true salesman.

RickM 02-13-2008 07:55 AM

Wonder if I can use those to build a fire pit. Maybe I'll just Email him and ask.

Jims5543 02-13-2008 07:55 AM

They make excellent bookcases.

We have a local online classified site that I had to stop using because of the stupid replies I was getting. I once posted some free carpet with my address, phone number etc.

First email I got was
"Hi :) How much for the carpet? Are you in canada?"

I replied
"No, I'm in Australia but I prefer advertising free things in Canada. The carpet is free, the shipping is $1086. I had to get rid of it fast so I've already sent it to you shipping COD. Thanks!"

Then I ignored her frantic replies

Time for a spirited round of "Who the F sells this S???"

Porsche-O-Phile 02-13-2008 08:56 AM

I listed a 17" monitor on there a few weeks ago, CLEARLY stating that it was only available for ONE DAY. I was getting calls a week later, "hey man, do you still have that monitor?".

Idiots. They can't read. Or don't.

Netspeed 02-13-2008 09:04 AM

What's the seller's name....Tony Montana?

You should've deleted the ad after that day.

Porsche-O-Phile 02-13-2008 09:11 AM

It's a great opportunity to get even with someone though. Just post their phone # with a listing for free stuff. :)

My favorite was a neighbor that put a working stove out on the curb with a FREE sign. Stayed put for two days - no action.

Then he posted a sign on the stove that said "Working stove - $50" and the stove was stolen within two hours!

I have customers come in who need to be engaged in that manner but I can normally maintain a bit higher level of civility.

8X16 Fuchs?

gr8fl4porsche 02-13-2008 10:26 AM

I buy stuff thru Craigslist almost weekly - selling is a different matter.

No one ever shows up - although I did sell something this morning to a 'lister.

The typical response is - 'I'll take it, I can come over tonight, please send phone #'

To which I respond with the appropriate info and never hear from them again.

HardDrive 02-13-2008 10:41 AM

That is some damn funny stuff.

Isn't it HILARIOUS when that happens? SmileWavy

I love the jokesters that feel the need to haggle over every little damn thing too. A while back I listed my motorcycle on there with a price of $2,500 firm. I swear I got six or seven inquiries from losers asking me if I'd consider trading for crap like rider lawnmowers (umm, I live in an apartment building), a flat screen TV (no interest, plus it's only worth about 1/3 what the bike is), ski equipment, old tires, an old Mercedes 190E with a blown head gasket and all manner of other stuff. I got ONE - UNO single offer from a guy with actual money, and he tried to lowball me for $2,100. I told him to look up the meaning of the word "firm" in the dictionary and get back to me. Never called back.

God I hate selling on CL.

Seahawk 02-13-2008 03:09 PM

That is simply funny...best laugh all day.

I bought a brand new set of Hummer H2 wheels, in the box with caps of CL for $100. They turned out to be legit, he sold his H2 and was restoring a 75 Vett & 55 chevy and just wanted them out. He had them listed for a few months and lots of calls, but people just asked stupid questions (
Quote:

will they fit a chevy 2500, I don't have an H2:rolleyes:).
So when I called, turned out he was only 5 minutes from one of my storages, he was a Navy officer, knew a few of my Navy PCA buddies and 8X17 new in the box wheels for a C-note, I'm a happy camper:D
That is the only CL story I have.

I once (and only once!) held a garage sale. I was young, I had a bunch of CR@P I was trying to get rid of. My sisters came over with boxes of their old cr@p too. Old books, junk, a few coffee mugs with chips on them...that kind of stuff.

I had about 20 or 30 mismatched old coffee cups/mugs from three families on a table and I think my sister put a 10 cents sign next to them. Morons wanted to bargain DOWN the price. They're mismatched, chipped friggin coffee cups for Kee-Reists sake! I told one guy I will throw them in the trash before I bargain on a 10 cent item. He kinda laughed - I threw one across the driveway and smashed the cr@p out of it! Idiots.
