Attitude is the elixir of life. He and his 70 something buddies do a five day, five peak ride in the Rockies every year. They may ***** about the little things, but they get the big picture. Thats my plan.

Good for the old pilot - I've been trying to talk my Pop into the seat of a new Porsche but he can't see spending that much money for a car.
I let him drive my old 911 whenever he is around though - maybe it spoiled him for the newer, overweight plastic Porsches they make now...;)

When you could have just STFU.

And on top of it, the car is tits. It would mop the fking track with any early 911S. You could disconnect a spark plug and let 1/2 the air out of the tires and it would still win. So there's that, too. Yeah, I'm tired of him.

Look, I'm sorry for getting PO'ed on this thread. I'm especially sorry to Rob. I do have a temper about certain things, and this would be one of them. Paul's comment, along with his permanent comment in his signature line, (in the same size type as the rest of the response), was highly inappropriate IMO. Some others feel the same way, you're free to take it differently.

Did it ever occur to you, (or PWD), that Rob might have been planning on sharing this thread and the responses with his Dad? And the first response says some stupid, outdated schit from 1958 about "putting radiators in front not very intelligent"...:rolleyes:

WW2 fighter pilot, (judging by his age), most of the posters here would have to stand on a chair to kiss his ass. He might know a thing or two about physics and what makes a car great, as well. I pick my battles, and don't relish going at it with PWD, who use to be my friend, but this was just mean and small-minded and I'm sick of it.

• Did basic flight training in '43. (Coincidently it was in Camden, SC. The field is about a mile from my house.)
• Soloed out of an airfield that is now the CMP racetrack.
• His aviation career spanned biplanes to supersonic jets. ("You determine the landing speed of a PT-17 by listening to the wires between the wings.")
• He flew combat in three wars. (WWII, Korea, and 'Nam.)
• Awarded the Silver Star, Distinguished Flying Cross, and many other honors.
• Piloted airplanes his entire 30 year career in the service.
• Favorite car owned? I suspect it would be the ’67 TR4A he bought after returning from 'Nam. He tweaked the heck out of that car. I remember it quite well.

Sorry, if simply saying "Early 911S" got you ladies all worked up then things must get pretty ugly pretty often there at the knitting circle.

Yeah, I can see where a pilot of early jets might like a machine based on mechanicals rather than electronics. But maybe having the throttle hook to a computer is appealing and will help keep him out of trouble. The ride in the newer p-cars is cushier, power steering, abs brakes... Maybe this is just like a Cadillac from the perspective of an old ex-pilot.
