First Porsche at 86

I just wanted to share...

My father came by to show off his new car. A six-speed manual, '08 cayman S with Sport Cronos, 19" wheels, and a few other options. He's eager to take it to the track to see what it will do.

Oh sure, not all that unusual. Not until until you realize he's 86. But what else would you expect an old fighter pilot to drive?

An early 911S?

Good for him. Whata chick magnet he'll be now.

Does he have a wife or "significant other" in this equasion?

Jays72T 02-17-2008 05:37 PM

Hope I can do that at 86, cool.

Shame he got a Cayman then.

Just kidding. Looks like an awesome pairing.

Yeah. The same lovely woman he's been married to for the last 60 years. He's a car guy, just like you and I. Except he's been a car guy a lot longer. And he's still able to drive them quite well.

Atta boy! Good for him. I want to be just like him some day.

p911dad 02-17-2008 05:53 PM

God bless him! He gives hope to us all!

Great to hear, thanks for sharing. I hope I can continue the hobby for so long.

So much for you inheritance! :) Good for him to enjoy life!.!.!......

Awesome! I'm glad that I can experience Porsche ownership now...just think of what I'll have when I'm 86. :)

Good for him. I love stories like this. I know we'd all like to have the car of our dreams at a young age, but we have to realistic. There's a reason most the new Porsche owners you see have gray hair, because they're expensive cars. I hope to be driving a new Porsche before I'm 86, but it probably won't happen til I'm over 50.

speeder 02-17-2008 07:15 PM

That just rocks!! He looks great for his age, too. Good genes there. :)

Why would a modern guy like him want some ancient technology?? So he can go a lot slower around the track?

Seriously, I can't believe that you would piss on a thread like this. We all know your hatred for modern Porsches, frankly it's really tiresome and boring. Most of us here are real enthusiasts, not members of a cult. If Ferry Porsche were alive, he'd have no time for you and he'd absolutely love this old guy.

At 86, I hope I can understand what a car is!! That's just great!!! Good for you and your Dad.

Denis Nothing wrong with old stuff, it's where new stuff came from right? As was pointed out during my recent DE at Willow Springs, the new cars have so much anti-skid, traction control, etc., that yes they can do a lap faster with a novice than a novice with an old car. However, the driver of the new car will probably have a harder time jumping in an older car and getting a good lap time than the other way around.

Wow! This just proves one of my own personal saying....

"I want to die when either I can't wash myself anymore, or can't drive."

His passion is one to be admired!

speeder 02-17-2008 07:30 PM

I love them all, Hugh. It's not about the cars, really, it's about being a hater and pissing on someone's parade for absolutely no reason.

DavidB911 02-17-2008 07:42 PM

I bet a guy that has this much wheel time has some excellent stories. Good for him to pick up a sports car!!
