I think we should ban hamburgers. They are a slow killer that makes people overweight and clog their arteries. Making a lot more victims than cigarettes, actually.

Well, I think we should ban terrorism, un-wanted pregnancies, red cars, (especially Miatas), rude people, shoes that don't fit, bowling balls, those pink, plastic flamingos, liberals, chewing gum, people named Stuart...

OH He!!... the dog just ate the rest of my list!

It's funny how seemingly every thread in OT turns into blaming Liberals.
It's like Fox News around here.

Liberals and Conservatives... Liberals and Conservatives... Liberals and Conservatives... on and on and on... When will people see through the BS?

I blame Religion.
Can we ban that, please?

Flame away:D

That is a terrible idea! All those smokers are scheduled to die before they can collect social security or their pensions. If their lives were extended it would screw up everything. Just think of the poor insurance companies! The discredited actuaries! Oh, the lack of humanity! We don't have enough set aside for those fools. Bad idea.

Haha... sounds like my kind of list.
And it was obviously made of bacon since the dog ate it so quickly.

Awesome, so now instead of driving to New Hampshire to buy stuff without having to pay sales tax you can now drive to the next town to have a drag.

Right town. Close on the details, but not exactly. You cannot smoke in the public places like shopping centers. Smoking at home is fine of course.
I think it actually worked (correct me if I am wrong).

Most places that ban smoking, actually have shown greater sales because the people that stayed away due to the smoke, end up becoming customers...

Sorry for smokers. Real addiction that should be addressed at the highest levels: What is added to make people crave it??? Why can people not stop when they want to. Just tabacco or is there something more..........

On that Colombian subject: After I retired I had some assignments at a factory in Zipaquira outside of Bogota. Got to know the locals real well. One night at dinner one of them asked me "Why does your President Clinton not bomb Daryl Strawberry and Robert Downey instead of the farmer's fields in our country."

I didn't have an answer for him!

Many things in life can be considered risky or dangerous, my and my childrens safety is MY responsibility...not gubmints.

This is NOT good...I agree with you again!;)

Especially that seatbelt bull*****. Why can the government give my wife a ticket when we are going 14 miles an hour approaching a stop sign and at the same time they have about 30,000,000 small children unbelted in those big yellow transporters every damn weekday?

Or helmets for car passengers. If seatbelts are the solution in cars then helmets absolutely should be mandated since they would save far more injury and death than seatbelts.

I hate the seat belt law 2
cash grab, that is all.

I loved TimH post!..... gubmint, too funny ;)

Totally agree. Cigarettes are simply a "socially accepted drug delivery device" that needs to go.

What if I pulled out a needle and started shooting up at the lunch table? Think anyone would mind? Well kids, smoking a cigarette is exactly the same, introducing nicotene and other chemicals into your lungs, where they go directly into your blood system.

It kills millions of people around the world and for what? Profit for the tobacco companies...

Legalize it! (and tax it!)

Trying to legislate morality just puts money in criminal's pockets, plain and simple. Same with prostitution, abortion (1st trimester only of course ;)) or anything else that's not harmfull to someone else.

I think the child killed during the abortion might disagree with "not harmful to anyone else".

I find your take on this a bit odd as the same folks who would typically want govt to regulate someones right to smoke, would be the ones who want to eliminate your right to own guns and fly your own airplane.

Snap out of it Joe, you are scaring me :D

In some places attempts were made to ban smoking in ones home if there were adjoining dwellings....such as a duplex, apartment, townhome etc.
