A new PPOT topic courtesy of 911Rob: LACK OF MONEY!!!!

OK, 911Rob, our cannuck friend from the frozen north has suggested on another thread we have a new topic: Lack Of Money. I'll start:

Beyond being faced with abject poverty and not being able to house or feed your family, I say the lack of money is not a serious concern. Some of the happiest people I've met are blissfully happy and barely getting by. Yet others who have unfettered wealth can be miserable.

I've witnessed people coming into seven and eight figure windfalls...even personally handed a few of them the check...only to see the windfall become a curse. Money seems to only be a blessing if you were happy before becoming flush.

If money will solve your problems, most likely money isn't your problem.

What say you?

I think that my favorite saying on this subject was:

If money is the root of all evil, why do churches seem to need so much of it?

I've known a lot of wealthy individuals - say, 8 figure net worths. Very few are happy or secure. Many have screwed up families.

I've noticed that people who have wealth but did not earn it, think they're a lot smarter than they are.

What do you think the No.1 thing that married couples argue about is?
Money?
or the "Lack of Money"?

Thanks Dueller;
You're a super duper great guy buddy.......

Now judging from your family photo, I would hedge a bet that you'd be happy with or without money! I would say the same goes for me.

Money accentuates the character of the individual.

There was this one time when my last start-up was failing and I didn't have $500 and a big parts sale didn't come through on time. Lack of money was noooooo problem at all.

how can somebody with a computer (to get on the internet) and a 911 be in abject poverty

I recall walking past a homeless guy with a shopping cart in SFO in the mid-1990s all the time. I noticed he had a laptop running and was working on it. So after I got to the point of saying 'hi' to him, I finally asked him what he was doing (it was on). He said "oh - just updating my web site."

This was in SoMA... go figure.

Truer words have evr been spoken. My income stream is feast or famine. I literally had a 6 figure fee on a case that took me 4+ years to bring it to fruition. By the time I finished paying off all the related expenses, some personal debt, taxes etc, I swear I had less than $5K net. Thank god her income is steady to keep the lights on.

I'm a believer in that life is the result of your daily habits; much like excercising your body or eating properly. Money is only one faucet of life. I don't care about money, but I keep alot of it around so that my decisions aren't affected by it or the lack of.

As some have stated here already; take a look at the analogy of "the grass is always greener on the other sided"; truth be told, if you jumped the fence and took over that grass, it would only be a matter of time before the grass on the other side of the fence looked exactly the same as the stuff you'd been caring for already. Most likely brown and full of weeds; ha, ha.

Money is the same. You can't expect to gain and get ahead without preparing yourself for it. You might have a good day, week or month; but if you keep caring for your money (grass) with the same 'o same 'o attitude and smarts; you're gonna be broke again, and soon; likely worse than before; like the results of those binge diets

You must learn 'how' to be rich, before you get rich. You must 'act' like a millionare and then you'll become one. Almost the same as 'fake it till you make it', but you gotta believe it, not just fake it. Learn from rich people that have the lifestyle that you want; its simple.

A rich guy, mentoring friend of mine once said to me, "Rob, I don't know one single millionare that makes his wife pay the bills." Want a happier family life, you pay the bills. You take charge of your families finances. Don't know how.... Fing learn! He also said, "Rob, do you know why women work?" "Because they like to eat". I won't touch that for now, but guys, you gotta take control of your household finances. Be accountable.

As for making money; ah, we already know that there's a million and one variations on the concept of money and success on this PPOT. I'm not at the top in income earning and wealth, but I am 99% above the bottom. Some guys are happy with 50%, others with 25% or 75%; I got one client makes $80Million a frickin year! Wish I could. (wish, want, need, got; I'll have to work on that?)

Daddy always said, "compare yourself to the best Rob, nothing short of the best"

Mommy always said, "oh that Robbie, always wanted what the rich people had"

Fun topic, I like it.

Measure your wealth not by what you can buy, but what you have that you would never sell at any price.
