Yes but that satalite would have fallen on one of the cities and killed them all.

We should have never launched those expensive satellites while inner-city kids are still watching CRTs, that's the answer!

I have no idea how much that satellite cost, but where do you think the money goes that is spent on something like that. It isn't just thrown out the window like some government spending , it goes back into our economy. Those provide lots of jobs here in the U.S. Plus the new technology that comes up all the time from working on these things. I don't see any of this as dead end money. Then there is the possible security factor of having them up there.
