Court Marshall for sniper?

Can you believe this BS. Superior orders him to take someone out and he get the ****? And don't give me that Nuremburg trial stuff.

I saw this on FOX of course, but this link is all I can find.

Excuse me? Fox is one of the more unbiased news sources in the world today. Suppose you endorse the NY Times, CNN or CBS news, our liberal news sources?

There has to be more to this story than what is being reported. Following your superiors orders (within reason) is not grounds for a court martial.

~~~~~~~~~~
BAGHDAD — The former commander of a U.S. Army sniper team testified Friday that he ordered one of his soldiers to kill an Iraqi who had stumbled on their hiding place, saying that was the only way to ensure the safety of his men in hostile territory.
Sgt. Michael A. Hensley, who was a staff sergeant at the time of the killing last spring but was later demoted, testified at the court-martial hearing of murder charge against Sgt. Evan Vela.
Hensley said that he and the other members of the sniper team had all fallen asleep, then awoke to find an Iraqi man squatting about three feet from them.
Hensley said he ordered the Iraqi to lie on the ground when he saw "military-aged men" who he thought were carrying weapons about 100 yards away.
He said the Iraqi on the ground began yelling and he decided that killing the man was the only way to keep the sniper hideout from being discovered by what he believed was a group of approaching insurgents.
Hensley was acquitted in November of murder charges in this shooting.
That story as presented is about as believable as the ******* tooth fairy, Joe. Is that your example of the "unbiased news source" that Fox News is? You would have to be kidding. Sounds like it was written by the guy's defense lawyer.
Not saying whether the guy is guilty of murder, but you've got to be kidding me. The Army sure as hell doesn't believe that version, it's on the level of a 5 year old's lying skills.
The undisputed facts from everyone present are that he, (Vela), shot and killed an unarmed civilian that did not need to be shot, (yelling might give away their position to "military aged men" a few yards away but a gunshot would not)??? How about a ******* gag or some duct tape? He then planted a weapon on the civilian and the squad cooked-up a BS story for the incident that would not, and did not, fool anyone for one minute. Except Fox News and you, Joe, apparently. It certainly did not fool their superiors. If the shooting was remotely justified, why the BS "bad shooting" story cooked-up? Troops shoot people every day in Iraq w/ no story necessary. This was manslaughter at the least, and probably murder. Yes, troops can commit murder in a war. Sad but true.
See the reason these lefties dog Fox so bad is that if you believe the NY Times, ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN, Fox looks made up. It's easy to understand their dilemma.
So let's see Speeder, if you were trying to find where a sound was coming from, and one sound was a continually yelling muslim, and the other was a single rifle shot, let me guess, the rifle shot would be easier to find? BRILLIANT!
His whole sniper team fell asleep?
And they didn't awaken until there was an Iraqi guy squatting 3 feet in front of them?
Something does not add up, IMO.
So why is he being court martialed, Einstein? Must be those liberals in the upper ranks of the military command wanting to hurt the moral of the troops, right?
Surely they didn't do it just to piss-off a bunch of morons at your local bar. The bottom line is that the original cover story was a waste of breath, as presented here. It is bull schit. It doesn't pass the kindergarden teacher smell test as a lie, and in fact the shooter (Vela) has given up on that story and switched to the Mai Lai defense of "following orders". He now admits his wrong-doing and supposedly "feels terrible" about it. Why the mule would someone "feel terrible" about shooting an enemy combatant in a war zone?? They feel great when they do that, as they should. He was unarmed, the story is BS, (guy was not yelling), he just stumbled upon their position and caught them by surprise sleeping. They killed him and planted a weapon on him, then made-up a really weak story that you are sucking on.
This is the reason why intelligent people do not believe in starting unnecessary wars or invading the wrong country. Experienced soldiers know that even if things go well, terrible things happen in war. And things have not gone well. The reasons and blame for that have been covered extensively.
What would be the senerio in which YOU would go to war? What would it take for you to fight to the death for your country and sacrifice your family?
Glad I can help, but then about 99% of your posts crack me up with their content, so turnabout is fair play.
Just who do you recommend for news oh great all knowing one? Since you know everything that there is in the world I am sure that you can tell us the unbiased news sources in the world that all the great citizens in the world power of Belgium are listening to.... come on, please tell us! BTW, it needs to be in English.
Joe
Some interesting posts here. I also belong to an SOF military forum and we discussed this very issue last week. The opinion of the military posters there, including me, is that the guy is lying and deserves to be tried for the crime.
There are several scenarios in which I could see fighting for my country, (hopefully killing rather than dying), but the reasons for our troops being blown-up in Iraq today would not qualify.
Most people who think Fox News is "Extreme Right" or "Faux News" has probably not watched it for more than 5 minutes. There are MANY views from the left. So much in fact that I often change the channel because I can't stand it. Hannity and Colmes can be quite infuriating. O'Reilly can also get on my nerves, but you will never see a balance of both sides like you will on FOX.
Like I said before, they may be on the right side, but they are by far closer to the middle than any one else.
And they have Laurie Dhue.
