I DO agree but the few are most definitely making the many, look like few!
If I were a policeman and I knew we had some of those "too-much-testosterone", tailored "uniforms-to-show-off-my-big-muscles" types in our department I think it would be good if some of the good cops made it loud and clear (unofficially of course) that you guys abuse your authority and we; the good cops, will take it up with you. The actions of those few endanger all ordinary, decent officers trying to do their tough jobs responsibly. The bad guys are more than willing to treat ALL cops like the ones that abuse their authority.

The good cops are fewer than you think, and when they pipe up about wrong doings they ruin their career (no promotion) and are threatened in and out of the department, as well as having their vehicle vandalized while its parked in the police parking lot. I have five close friends who are police officers and two of which work in the same dept. One spoke out against the blue and the other one didn't. It's been years since the incident occurred and the effects are astounding when you compare the careers of both individuals.
The incident I'm referring to was in national news now and again for almost two years. The fact of the matter is that even the "good cops" keep their mouths shut no matter what because of the consequences they will endure from breaking the blue code. I am probably as close as you can get to being inside the system without wearing a badge. What defines a "good cop" to me is how they handle themselves as an individual while performing their duties. Even good cops make mistakes. Obviously corruption and misconduct exist in every city but to different degrees depending on what city you live in. The city I live in has serious issues however on both sides of the law. |

Can you make a post about police without referring to "too-much-testosterone", tailored "uniforms-to-show-off-my-big-muscles" I don't know what department your using as a model, but it isn't Pasadena or mine or any that I know of in the southern california area. If they were fat and sloppy you would complain about that. Personally, it sounds like you get intimidated just by the sight of someone bigger or possible in better shape then you. God forbid, there be a post about some positive cops. With all the times you have posted that retort, I think we all have gotten it. Jesus, just can't let it go huh. Not even on a positive thread. Why don't you also post a picture of your girlfriends old SL55 also, THere might be someone here who hasn't seen a picture of it yet. Sorry Dan, it must be the Roids. ![]()

Sorry you feel that way. My experience is different. Different department, different city. I am on the inside.

I really appreciate you saying that. Based on some of your previous posts I would have assumed you felt different. But you know what they say when you assume. I apologize for judging you incorrectly.

A subject I can get into. I'm working OT all this weekend but it looks like the weather is going to crappy anyway. Lets try for something the following weekend. I'll be off Fri-Sun so any of those days work for me. What about you?
I'll shoot you a PM with my number.

I'm on a plane to Hong Kong Friday, back the following one. I have my son though all weekend, so unless I get a play date break it would have to be the weekend after that.

Actually, I couldn't care less if the way I express my opinions or pictures of my GF's car annoy you so much. How many times have we ALL seen Jack Olsen's beautiful 911's? How many times have we seen Byron's parts stash, Jeremy's upholstery work, or hear about CJ's love of the Boston Red Sox? All of these things (in my opinion) are endearing insights to the lives and interests of guys I will never meet and can only "know" by what they write and post here. You know, my opinions are largely in the minority here as the board is overwhelmingly conservative and I have not yet gotten the rude, judgemental response you gave by any of the guys that my opinions probably pi$$ off regularly - legion, mule, sammy, byron, jeff,.....oh but YOU have special needs, huh? Gee, I thought we were ALL here to relate to the topics presented with our opinions and our experiences. Silly me. As for my condition? I'm in fine shape, thanks for the accusation... and yes as a matter of fact EVERYBODY with the attitude I have described "intimidates" me. And those that are legally armed with guns, tasers, sticks and have the power of life and death over me? well, they PARTICULARLY intimidate me, but not you huh? Oh that's right, you're one of them. Oh and just cause you mentioned it? My girlfriend's other former car. Enjoy! ![]()

My daughter bought her first car today - a Honda Civic. Tonight after work she was driving home when she was pulled over for unknown reasons. The officer asked if she knew why she was pulled over. She did not. Turns out she didn't turn her lights on. Because the car was new to her, she turned on the parking lights - dash lights on - but thought she turned on the lights. The officer asked for her DL - she couldn't find it. This could have been a bad story because frankly, she's a bone head. A polite bonehead, but a bonehead none the less. However, the officer was polite, patient, and understanding. He took the info, ran her record and plates (as well he should), and sent her on her way with a few helpful pointers on safety.
As I said in the other thread today - I have always taught my kids that the police are there to protect us and we go to them when we need help. I wondered if that was a mistake. Ironically, my question was answered about 1hour after I posted. Kudos to the officer from Grafton Wisconsin for not making a liar out of me! ![]() |

First time I was pulled over, I was on my learners permit at 15 1/2. The LEO was not very nice. He gave me the third degree about what I did wrong (improper lane change and cut someone off from the 101/405 interchange south). He scared me to the point of not being able to drive the rest of the way to the airport. He was even rude to my dad.
Since then, I have met many more LEO's all have been very nice and even when the situation wasn't the best for me, they were still very nice and courteous. I still can remember every detail of the first encounter to this day and I still am sour about it, but that really hasn't swayed me from all positive encounters I have had. There are good cops and bad cops, but that can be said of any corporation/entity. I do agree, that, the one cop that picked on the skaters, has a bad attitude and shouldn't really be allowed to interact with the public until he's had some anger management classes. MMARSH: We have not really formally met, but I was around at the strip mall/gas station during the '08 hangover run and you and your partner seemed very nice.

I got stopped on the I205 in Oregon about 2 months after I turned 16. I was driving my GTO and like a fool, thought the headlights behind me were from someone that wanted to race. I floored it and was winning. Well I was until he turned on the red lights. ![]() ![]() Dave, I am not nice, there are several people on this board (Some have even slept at my house) who have met me in person and will attest that I am in fact "one of them". In reality I wish I had been doing the run with you guys instead of watching.
