Rabbit lost his head .

We let the rabbit have the run of the garden all day and at night always put him in his cage nice and safe.

Always a bit of a struggle getting him in because he is so used to his freedom.

So last night I am sick as a pig, vomiting, diarrhoea, just desperate to get to bed.

Goes out to get Flopsy and he is running all over the place. I thought bollocks to this he will be ok outside for one night.

Shouts him this morning, no sign. There in the corner of the garden, the rabbit with his head bit off. So this is me, come home to bury the bloody rabbit.

Do I tell my 3 little kids Flopsy has found a girlfriend and run off, or some Stoat took him?

Moral of the story.....put the pets away no matter what :(

frogger 02-26-2008 03:53 AM

I done a bad thing an' George won't let me tend no rabbits now. :(

Sorry to hear about Flopsy's demise. Tell the kids that he died, and that it's just a sad fact of life, and that you'll get them another rabbit as soon as you're no longer sick. :)

cool_chick 02-26-2008 04:19 AM

Ohmigod. WTF?

So sorry, daddy. That's really sad.

MFAFF 02-26-2008 05:35 AM

Tell them the truth...

Rabbit was killed by stoat/ mink...

New rabbit on its way.

When we're out in the woods and find piles of feathers etc J who is now six recognises that a bird died and soembody ate it..

Basic facts of life.

Sure a bit more difficult with a pet but in the end it is the most effective way forward..

onewhippedpuppy 02-26-2008 05:38 AM

Just tell them it's head fell off.

bigchillcar 02-26-2008 06:34 AM

i'm 'only 42', but when the bun bun i'd had for eleven years dies this past december, i only cried for a week. i'm sure your kids will hold up better than i did.. ;)

Porsche-O-Phile 02-26-2008 06:36 AM

Probably a pit bull.

M.D. Holloway 02-26-2008 07:09 AM

Wow, that sucks. No head huh? Strange. You would think that if something was gonna eat it, the legs would be the better choice. I guess there is no accounting for taste.

Are you sure it wasn;t a hate crime?

I prefer duct tape. "Pretty bird, pretty bird. Polly want a cracker?":D

Mo_Gearhead 02-26-2008 07:21 AM

...at least it wasn't boiling in a pot of water on the kitchen stove!

onewhippedpuppy 02-26-2008 07:23 AM

We got no food, no jobs... our PET'S HEADS ARE FALLING OFF!

Alright, alright.

I even laughed my arse off at that one myself.

Tough crowd in here today :(

HardDrive 02-26-2008 08:36 AM

Seems to me one could, with a bit of searching, find a VERY similar looking rabbit.

*nudge nudge wink wink*

trekkor 02-26-2008 08:37 AM

I thought some of the comments made were in very bad taste.

Very very possible KT. Maybe guys without kids, who knows?

But the odd nice comment far outweighs the bad.

I would have to agree with this course of action myself. Poor kids. Poor you...all riddled with guilt now.

Tell them that flopsy met an evil rabbit. The most foul, cruel, and bad-tempered creature you ever set eyes on.

/sorry, couldn't resist. ;)

rouxroux 02-26-2008 09:22 AM

I had not even considered the Rabbit of Caerbannog!!!!

A bandmate of mine came home one day and found that his daughter's bunny had passed away in it's hutch. Not wanting to "dispose of the body" at that time, he thought he'd put the littke bunny in a big zip lock bag and place it in the freezer to have a "proper burial" later on. Well, his wife called during one of our breaks that evening to inform him that his little daughter had found "bunny" while helping Mom cook supper. Man, I felt bad for him!

Oh come on, the thread title is "Rabbit lost his head". How can you post a serious response to that?

Dantilla 02-26-2008 10:20 AM

As a guy who's daughter has a rabbit, I find all of these tasteless comments........ Hilarious!

The rabbit has free range of our deck- He won't go down the stairs, so we let him run freely. We have woods surrounding out house, so someday, if he ever goes missing, we will assume he joined other wild rabbits, and decided to live in his natural surroundings.

My daugher named the rabbit "Cocoa". So if you find any 'Cocoa-Puffs' around our house, don't eat them!

frogger 02-26-2008 10:34 AM

Look, we all loose our heads from time to time. What's important is what we learn from the experience, so that we can grow as individuals. At these times, we have an opportunity to become better people, and that's really all that matters.

He must go down the stairs.

berettafan 02-26-2008 11:18 AM

it is strange that the head was chewed off. were i a predator of rabbits i think i'd be focusing on the meatier parts. but then i've seen the type of rabbits you guys have over there and think i'd just beg for spam rather than risk my life with such dangerous critters.

Hugh R 02-26-2008 11:19 AM

Wow, I found a deer head in my backyard once, just the head, never found the rest of the animal.

Hmmm, at first I thought it might be a Fox, but the Fox would have taken the whole body.
A Cat could kill a rabbit, but would it be worth the effort and chance of injury to itself?
A Stoat on the other hand kills by biting at the neck, and eating what it can.

Hopefully Mr Stoat will meet Mr Fox tonight :)

svandamme 02-26-2008 11:46 AM

wait 1 day before cooking the stew
then leave the stew over night
good eatin' on day 3!

I hear tabs has a counseling service for such rabbits. ;)

MT930 02-26-2008 01:33 PM

My Daughter wants a rabbit in the worst way. I have had them it's tough when that happens I kind of want to save her the grief.

I tell her that rabbits are the snickers bars of the animal world. Every critter likes to eat them. If they were tougher they would not be so cute.

I figure that God created rabbits simply to feed the carnivores. All they do is multiply, and get eaten.

Aurel 02-26-2008 08:46 PM

I found the head...

there was just an article in the newpaper here
saying rabbit is healthy, 66% unsaturated fat's and amino acids , linol acid, alfalinol acid, dha,
stuff you normally only find in fish, rarely in meat..
it's also low in natrium high in iron & Vitamin B12

it did mention bred rabbit, snuffed at at 12 weeks old, before they start storing fat
the rear legs are the best, low fat, low calories
and to remove excess fat at the rump before cooking

http://www.nieuwsblad.be/Article/Detail.aspx?ArticleID=HT1OFL1R

oh, and did i mention that rabbit is tasty?
stewed in a brown abbey beer, carrots, a loaf of bread and mustard...

Real good !

island911 02-26-2008 11:51 PM

I think you could tell the kids the rabbit died/was killed. Tho' I would skip the "headless" part.

azasadny 02-27-2008 03:41 AM

Sorry to hear about your bunny's demise. We had various lop rabbits, but our favorite was a dutch rabbit we had for 8 years. He would hang out in the backyard and never run away. He stayed out all day and one day he was gone. We missed him and got a ferret.
