New or unlocked Cellphones; where to buy?

My s/o needs to get a new cellphone. Does anybody have any suggestions on where to get a new one that will work with AT&T? She has a great plan that is no longer being offered, so she can't get a discounted phone from them without signing a new contract.

I know Ebay is one place, but any other online store/sources?

Thanks,

I bought a Nokia 9300i from them. Love it - the US version didn't have 802.11 but mine does, so I don't need a data plan.

Make sure to get a quad-band phone if you're getting one from overseas. Sometimes tri-band phones drop when going from tower to tower. I think the carrier tries to pass the phone off to a tower broadcasting in a frequency the phone doesn't operate in so the call drops.

ebay? I've bought several phones off of ebay. Often they are new, but I've also purchased a couple of lightly used phones.

My wife had good luck getting a replacement for her 'broken' phone without getting a new contract. Seems the rules were different if she was upgrading her phone vs replacing one that didn't work any more. They gave her the phone she wanted at the discounted rate. YMMV...

Just realized you are in Dallas.

My office is in Grapevine.

If you are interested in the Nokia come pick it up, toss in her card and take it for a test drive.

If you find a phone you like, most of them can be unlocked easily for about $20 or so. Do an internet search and sure you can find someone close to where you live who does this.

I used to buy them unlocked from Canada but these days you can do it easier off of Ebay or locally.

Mad Monkey Boy (http://www.dweiniger.com/catalog/) but he seems to have really slowed don on what he carries now.

And there is Expansys USA (http://www.expansys-usa.com/p.aspx?i=161051) for a better selection but higher prices.

WOW the prices are really high on that Tigerdirect.com. I bought a new unlocked Razor for Xmass for my wife off of ebay for like a 1/3 of the cost listed on Tiger and it was as advertised and works great. Check ebay stores for like Electronics for less I think they are called.

Thanks for the tips. We'll check out all the source mentioned. I think she wants to stay clear of Ebay so that she doesn't have warranty issues. We'll see....

Why buy an unlocked phone? Buy a locked AT&T phone off ebay, put your chip in it and use it. It will be much cheaper than an unlocked phone.
