While I didn't agree with him on most issues, I did enjoy listening to him, even if I got headaches trying to decipher his vocabulary. The man had an amazing command of the english language.

That is too bad. I was always amazed at how he could do everything from political colums to humor to best selling novels. He will be missed.

Bill Buckley, Jr.

He was a great man. The conservative and moral concience of a generation.

i remember back when the national review was the only right of center news source in the country. buckley really changed the world.

have been meaning to pick up a copy of his latest book. it's a collection of reader's angry letters, and his responses. it's called "cancel your own goddamn subscription".

Although I don't smoke and don't like the habit, I loved the movie, "Thank You for Smoking" because of the message of personal responsibility. Turns out, Buckley's son wrote it. A chip off the old block. I hope to hear more from Christopher Buckley.

What a sad day. I wish I knew him personally, I will miss his writing and political savvy.

This man should have been President, he would have gotten my vote and full support.

Rest in Peace William F. Buckley Jr.

I don't care if a writer is liberal or conservative. If it is well written and cleanly argued, I'll enjoy the read. Buckley was among the very best.

I can hear his cadence in these.

Quote:
Buckley: Liberals want to give a hearing to other views, but then are shocked and offended to discover that there are other views.

Buckley: Idealism is fine but as it approaches reality the costs become prohibitive.

Buckley (about appearing on Laugh-In): I decided to do it when they promised to fly me out to Hollywood on an airplane with two right wings.

Buckley: Liberals are people who will believe anything....twice.

Buckley: Back in the 30's we were told that we must collectivize the nation because the people were so poor. Now we are told we must collectivize the nation because people are so rich.

Buckley: I would like to electrocute everyone who uses the word fair in connection with income tax position.

Buckley: It is not a sign of arrogance for the king to rule. That is what he is there for.

Buckley: I get satisfaction of three kinds. One is creating something, one is being paid for it, and one is the feeling that I haven't just been sitting on my ass all afternoon.

Buckley: Liberals, it has been said, are generous with other peoples' money except when it comes to questions of national survival when they prefer to be generous with other peoples' freedom and security.

Buckley: I'd rather entrust the government of the United States to the first 400 people listed in the Boston telephone directory that to the faculty of Harvard University.

Buckley: One must bear in mind that the expansion of federal activity is a form of eating for politicians.

Buckley: Some of my instincts are reprehensible.

Buckley (after being asked what he'd do if elected Mayor of New York): Most likely demand a recount.

God & Man at Yale was his first book and covers his early experiences, for those that don't know.

Buckley created modern conservatism - nearly single-handedly at first. He may be glad to be going out now, as Bush accelerates the demise first foreshadowed by Rush Limbo and others...
