Tim Hancock -- Alfa (Stainless) Bumper Pix

Tim -

it took a while, but I finally took pix of the Alfa bumpers. The grille is ok, with a couple of minor dings.

The right front is pretty good as well, with a small ding/crease, but otherwise OK:

The left front is already separated with a little bit of a prang/wave in the top,...

and a couple of dings in the bottom:

The left rear is in pretty good shape, with a bit of a wave, but not much:

The right rear is the worst of them, meriting 2 pix:

Please let me know if you think they're salvageable. They're stainless, and expensive. I don't expect the project to be cheap.

Thanks in advance,

JP

I can't imagine why that wouldn't be fixable. Hell a guy could fill and grind since it's stainless though I imagine some sheet metal guys could work most of it out.

JP, I could "probably" take care of most of the dings, but I am not so sure about the areas that are distorted. If they were mine, I would definitely try, but I can't promise success. If you want me try, I will, I just can't guarantee how much of it is doable for sure.

Lendaddy, I would avoid welding at all costs as it would be very difficult have it match perfectly when polished. A master sheet metal guy would be able to to fix this stuff with the least amount of problems, but I would only consider myself an "apprentice" compared to a few guys I have met at Oshkosh who bang out custom or replica antique airplane parts on a regular basis.

Good point.

An oak or plywood buck with a wooden mallet would be my approach.

Well I got them pretty much as far as I can get them without burning up crazy amounts of time. I don't have a good enough buffing set-up to put a proper finish on them so they will have to go to polisher. The grill had a small crack, but it might be worth keeping for a spare. The passenger front upper was dinged/warped pretty bad. It still does not look anywhere near perfect. All in all, I think the others will be good provided they get polished by a polishing shop. I wish I could have done more, but my patience is starting to wear thin

Wow! Thanks Tim!

I will tell you that you could probably make some good "side money" doing these pieces for alfisti every so often. If you'd like, I could mention your name on the alfa boards, with a very strong recommendation!

Randy -- that's essentially my car (though mine's in white) and the steering wheel is on the proper side in mine! The funny thing about the car in your picture is that, for a 1969, the exhaust would be too short... unless it's about 4" longer and angled down, you'll get exhaust fumes sucked into the car at speeds above ~60 mph! But the "proper" exhaust looks goofy to some folks, and they go with the stubby.

Always wanted an alfa, but ended choosing a porsche.
Someday I would like to add an alfa spider and a 1967-74 GTV.....

Great cars
