Subordinate meltdown

Geez, what a week. Trying to fix a problem outside the country, trying to get things quickly through customs. Dealing with shipping companies. Dealing with customers. Dealing with the Prime Contractor, which is a jerk. Very very frustrating.

Then, one of my guys has a meltdown. He starts by sending nasty e-mails to one of the salesguys (who is an a$$hat!). Then, after a couple of rounds, forwards the e-mail trail to the President of our division, along with a whiny paragraph, telling the President that the sales guy is pissing him off.

2 days of damage control, meetings, presentations, phone calls, more meetings, wasted time, wasted effort.

I'm glad the week is over.

That's the type of job I like. Fires all around. The others are just a paycheck.

Everything was fine, except the wasted time from the meltdown. I dig chaos too.

Once the situation has become a ring of fire is when I truly enjoy it. I love putting out fires.

I'm not sure I could handle not having a loose cannon on my team.

From the other end... working for someone that loves choas when you don't, not fun. And whats worse is when there isn't any most of you create it.

I work with one like that. She loves a big blow-up, and having "come to jesus" meetings. Any roadblock, resistance or blip on the screen results in a huge drama. If there isn't an issue worthy of a freakout, she'll go looking for one... or worse yet, create one.

She tried meddling in one of my projects, starting pi$$ing fire at one of my developers who had pointed out a technical problem. On the call, with every listening, I told her to lay off and take a chill pill... that the problem would get fixed just as quickly without her having a tantrum. I don't need my team being hesitant to bring up problems.

That didn't go over so great with her, but she goes elsewhere for her fun & games now.

I think you have me pegged wrong. I don't want to create chaos. But working on different things everyday is better than just turning the crank.

Actually, I think the sales guy may like creating chaos/drama. He seems to be at the center of an awful lot of drama lately.

I meant no offense to you personally. That is funny though your comment about the sales guy!! Some people are just wired that way. And yes working on different things is nice. I do have that luxury also.
