Can you doctors answer my question?

Can you explain why my respiratory infection has caused an infection in my eye that then spread to the other. I'm going to see the doctor in the moring and hopefully get some drops or something.

Yes and no. Pink-eye can refer to several types of infection and due the fact that i havent left my house since wednesday due to a respiratory infection i didn't catch it from someone else.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pink_eye some of ths stuff in there also makes me believe that i didnt get it from someone else.

There are certainly a multitude of particularly viral infections that will love to inhabit the mucus layers of both the respiratory tract and the eyes. Rather typical too that it will start in one area and spread to another over the course of a few days. Very, very common.

I'm with Markus. Haven't you ever pinched your nose and blown really hard - hard enough to see bubbles comes out of the inner corners of your eyes?

Are you serious???

Dude...you're going to herniate yourself for goodness-sake. What's in that nose of yours that requires such effort to dislodge? The mind boggles!

The way the infection can get to your eyes, is through the drains that empty into channels (canaliculi) that connect the eye with the nose. The channels drain into tear sacs (lacrimal sacs) that lie beside the nose. The sacs narrow into tear ducts (lacrimal ducts) that drain through the nasal bone into the nostrils. With a respiratory infection, it is extremely easy to get involvement of the mucous membranes and tear ducts of the eyes, being it is all connected inside the nasal passages and the cranial sinus chambers. It would also seem that a sinus infection could be the next system to get involved, if not already, playing a part of all these problems. Hopefully your Dr. will be able to determine what type of infection it is, and use the appropriate antibiotics to kill the evil bastards that are attacking your multi-system involvement. Good luck and do what the Dr. says to do, and get better soon. The kind of involvements that you are showing now, need immediate action taken. Again, hope all goes well with your needed treatment and a speedy recovery!! Tony.

wash them in the AM, put on some sort of protectant or emollient and use the waterless hand wash stuff during the day. Either that or put lotion on your hands after washing each time.

Did the doc explain how he/she came to the conclusion it was bacterial? Not questioning the diagnose, mind you, just curious.

Sorry just found your reply livi my email has been messed up.
Not particularly. He just said that it didnt look viral and since i had had little contact with the outside world it was unlikely that anyone had given it to me so it had to have been caused by the respiratory infection. He prescribed vigamox and it has cleared up now.
