My daughter attacked in Charlotte

Our 19 year old was attacked tonight in Charlotte between her car and her apartment in the supposedly fairly safe south central portion of the city(just down from the Starbucks). She is thankfully physically ok, with a bruise on her back where the scum kicked her. The cops said it was likely a gang initiation to get proof of an assault, as they didn't harm her further or do worse!. One of the 3 youths tackled her, took the car keys and as she was screaming her head off, another started kicking her in the back. The neighbors came running and ran them off back to the projects(as the cops said they were likely from). Her visiting Mom was in the apt and was also confronted and likewise ran them off. She is going to school in Charlotte, man we are rethinking that plan! Thank God in the Heavens she is ok, and her Mom too! She will likely never, ever forget this and what a scar that will make.

My heart goes out to you and her. I boil (as I bet you do as well) to think such animals are getting anywhere near our kids. Tell her there are a bunch of bored Porsche guys pulling for her as well.

Thanks, we got lucky tonight it wasn't worse. It is funny, Charlotte is a leafy, pretty city, you just don't have this sort of thing on your mind walking around. Then, bam, those kids just whack you and run.

I"m sorry to hear that and glad she's ok.

Don't hold it against Charlotte, though. It's everywhere.

Exactly. Charlotte is probably a pretty nice place. Terrible that this happened, but sounds like it could have been a lot worse. Sounds like maybe it was a very inept, botched robbery attempt. At any rate, everyone is OK and that's what matters.

Can only imagine how you feel; I don't have children, but if anyone attacked my sister or Mom I would be in a killing mood.

I am so sorry to hear about your daughter, this is something she won't forget. I know, my wife was attacked and beaten by a group of gang memebers shortly before we were married. She wasn't so lucky and suffered a severe beating. To this day she has health issues from the beating she took. Emotionally she is still affected and becomes very upset when groups of young men who are dressed as gang members are around. My wife had counselling to help her deal with her feelings for quit some time. I suggest you seek counselling for your daughter. This was a life changing event for my wife. I hope your daughter will be ok, my wife and I will keep her in our prayers.

Oh man! So sorry for your daughter. This is one of the few things that make me completely furious! Physical assault is in my book the worst offense. Should be punished utterly severely. The scum animals in the world that lack the mental boundaries to attack other people should be eradicated, pissed on, dismembered, decapitated, killed, thrown up on and buggered with a sharp object. Not necessarily in that order, mind you. (first time I have used the angry emoticon I believe).

I'm very sorry this happened to your daughter, and hope it doesn't leave her too emotionally "scarred". It's unfortunate, but Charlotte has way more "big city" problems than my area, but even here "gang" activity is now common in certain areas, and I see signs of it in Winston-Salem too (where I work). Which area of Charlotte was it (which school, or street intersection?)...I go to shows there on a semi-regular basis.

Hmmm... all that in this kinder, gentler society? You should be ashamed. We should sit them down discuss their aggression, find a good social program to enroll them in, pay them to attend, feel sorry for them because the man has kept them down. It will only cost the tax payers a few million dollars, (and not do a ******* thing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ) ARRRRGGGGGGGGGGGG!!!!!!!
I'm with you Livi. oh, and on top of what you said... Do all that in public, on a dreary, cold, rainy day. Uhhhh... I feel better now.
Glad to hear your daughter is ok, she's be fine, (find her some pepper spray).

So sorry to hear this. I'm glad shes ok.
It sucks that we have scumbags on the bottom of the societal ladder that would do something like this. Crap like this is becoming all too common

Sorry to hear about your daughters terrible experience.

Living in rural, fly-over country, we (who not regularly encounter these 'maggots of society') tend to forget what it must be like to live in their midst.

Art may sometimes imitate life.

I occasionally wonder how many years it will be before we start to see the roles reversed and citizens begin to take back their neighborhoods?

Teach her how to use her ignition key as a weapon. When I was taking Tae Kwon Do in grade school, they showed us how to stab an attacker in the eye or under the chin with an ignition key. I still carry my key like that when unarmed and walking to my car.

Sorry to hear - glad she's okay. Believe me when I say there are still some people out there that wouldn't think twice about jumping to a situation like that - risks or no risks, on behalf of an innocent person like that. I'm one of them. It's too bad there wasn't anyone else nearby that could have done likewise.

I hope the a-holes that did it get what they inevitably will sooner rather than later - a small cell with someone much bigger & tougher than them, who needs a boyfriend that night.

I've been thinking about this, and I agree with POP. I'm sure she was somehow "alone", and that equates to vulnerability for a 19 yr. old coed. Safety in numbers, and particularly still here in the south, most guys, and a LOT of females would not stand by without intervening. Most guys would gladly walk with a female (to her car, etc.) if asked. It isn't Kansas anymore, and that's sad...

Pretty lucky. Ice for a whileYou have to always be aware of your surroundings when you are out and about. It won't always save you, but is never a bad idea. Pepper spray on your keychain and food running shoes ain't bad either

You could hurt someone pretty bad with the keys between your fingers bit, probably kill them without too much trouble, which would stop the others pretty quick when they dropped. They bleed a lot when you give them the uppercut through the chin(and tongue)
