Mac Users: Anyone have a time capsule?

Well I just couldn't take it (i.e. windows) anymore so I am making the switch back to Mac. I bought a iMac and iPhone and love them both...it's sooooo good to be back....good bye Bill.

I am looking at getting the 1TB time capsule and wondering if anyone has one...seems like a decent deal for good storage and improved wi-fi...anyone?

Wayne

Not yet. Wanna get one for the wife. Just have not gotten around to it yet.

Maybe this weekend.

Wireless backup, wifi base station, print sharing etc... in one package at a competitive price point. How can you go wrong.

I don't have the time capsule but have the latest airport extreme base station with 802.11n wireless and it works well - I have a network USB hard disk and USB printer that all my home computers share - both Mac and Linux laptops and desktops (I have gone Windows-free). The new time capsule with the recent price drop is a good deal for 1 Tb of storage space, even here i Australia.

Have you noticed an increase in speed or better connectivity (better signal strength)? Also, what about transfer speed for backup? I have large video files from home movies that would be trasferred via wi-fi.

Not really seen much of an increase in speed. I saw a slight one here at work when we got the newer 802.11n Airport. But not really that great.

I use my Time Capsule at home. The first backup takes forever (all night - not sure how long). 16 GB Photos, 20 GB music, 20 GB ripped movies, etc. After that I haven't noticed any slowdown. Don't use the exclusive 802.11n on the different band since the mac mini can't handle it.

So far (just a few days) just as simple and seamless (and seemingly as quick) as my Time Machine extra INTERNAL drive here at work on a new MacPro. (Actually was using RAID and was having error codes, so just decided to use Time Machine instead as it allows me to get stuff I've erased and need again). Do a handful of websites and some print material and like the feeling of not losing things or deleting versions of things I need to reference again!

Should say we have 3 DSL lines at work (2 for data, 1 for internet phones) and the 802.11n on the different band (5mghz???) seems about twice as quick as the old airport.

Still, the cable modem at home is usually quicker overall than these DSL lines here at work for large photo downloads (Downloaded 250GB+ in photos from Getty Images last night both here and at home, and it is still quicker at home - I'm in an 42 year-old office building in Chicago - had to run a special line up from the basement just to keep the best data line working well....).

I know that data lines and voice should be able to coexist, but found voice choppiness when downloading big things, hence the multiple lines.

Just punched "F4" and yes, signal strength is increased if you use the exclusive 802.11n here at work. Took a laptop out to the hallway and could get signal to the elevator corridor and beyond (where the concrete blocked the signal when I tried this years ago.....)

From what i hear, you'll probably get laid more often too! I'm thinking of buying one too. I'll just throw it in the closet & enjoy all the side benefits.

Do you think I could borrow it for a weekend or two?

I read (probably on Slashdot) that Time Machine has some...issues. Might want to check into it a bit further before relying on it for super important things. I know, I know, hearsay and conjecture...

I would also suggest a '60s orgy. Free love and all that.
