Complete this sentence: I wish I would have bought...

Inspired by the other thread of a similar title.

....a 914, when they were really cheap, for a really nice one. Now there isn't a fun car in sight I can reasonably afford...

.........the 356B that was for sale at $1900 when I paid $1695 for the '70 Bettle I bought in 1974.

The Beetle was a very good car though.

...the 1962 Corvette my buddy found for me for $4500 in about 1974.

We were all getting out of vans (yeah, eyes rolling here too!) and two of my buddies bought 'Vettes. One a '59 and the other a '65. Gas was like $0.55 and I couldn't see myself paying that much, what an idiot!

A man named Ray Croc asked me personally in 1966 if I would like to buy some stock in his company. He was in the business of selling hamburgers, (McDonalds) He was a friend of my father's when he bought a franchise. I was 16 years old and did'nt know a thing about stock, and of course, did'nt have $2200.00. Oh well, it was still a nice gesture.

ISRG stock when it went public about 7 years ago. IPO was at $13. It fell to $9 and I decided it wasn't worth risking a few k. Trading today in the $300 range. Who would have thought that robotic surgery would become viable???

A duplex that a family friend offered to sell me at the beach when I was 19 for $35K. A few years ago, that same piece of dirt sold for $1.6m:(

Rob Channell 03-05-2008 06:26 PM

A couple MP5SDK's, couple M14's, M16's when they were much cheaper.
Charlie Swanson's 3.2 liter engine when he decided to sell it. At least another Pelican has it.
Some good mutual funds when I was in my early twenties.
I'll also add what targa911s said.......

The 1961 Aston Martin DB4GT Zagato for $3,000 instead of the 1961 regular DB4 which I bought for $1,750; that was back in 1971.

the 1955 D Jaguar that I was considering buying around 1961...but I thought that $5100 was way out of line and cancelled the deal!

Hugh R 03-05-2008 07:21 PM

WI

You and I were the putzes. The only consolation that I get is that when I bought the DB4, I considered a 427 AC cobra, but my Dad talked me out of it. At 17 y/o in the USMC, if I'd bought a 427 Cobra, I'd be dead now.

My grandparent's house on the Cape. Damn.
