Help with NYC CCW and FFL Issue

Hi,
I posted this in a gun forum and then I remembered that you guys seem to know about most things. I need a little help and some brainstorming. Here's my issue. My Dad passed away in October of last year. Unfortunately, he passed away in his car with one of his firearms, a Glock 19. To make matters worse, this occurred in New York City where the gun laws are incredible. By the way, my Dad was a retired correction officer with a permit to carry. Of course all of my Dad's property could not be collected until I received proper certification from NY Surrogates Court which I now have. I also had all the vouchers for the property found in the car with the exception of one. You guessed it, the Glock 19 and ammo. I finally convinced a detective (I think he became tired of my phone calls) who worked the case to fax me the voucher which I now have. Now on to the part to which I need help. I can't legally pick up the Glock because I do not have a NYC permit. They will not release it to me without one. My thought is to ask a friend of my Dad with a permit to receive the firearm and then transfer it to me. My other thought is to possibly find a FFL in NY who can then transfer it to a FFL in CA (the geography makes the problem even worse). What do you guys think of my options? Any other suggestions? Also, does a FFL have the ability to transport on his person, a firearm? Lastly, does anyone know of a NYC FFL that will accompany me to retrieve the firearm? Sorry for the long post but I really need to find a solution.

Call John Jovino Firearms in Manhattan 212-952-4881. They deal with NYPD all the time.

Thanks Vinny for name. John wants to charge a mint to pick it up and send it to Cali. There must be a more reasonable priced FFL in NY. If all else fails I may end up using John.

If you live in SF you can't legally have that gun or ammo in your possesion either, though this law is almost certainly in violation of the state and federal constitutions. It is possible that the high capacity clip is illegal to own in California, may want to check.

Yup, can't bring the high cap into Cali, etc. so forth.

Will the PD send the gun to a FFL of your choice somewhere without someone picking it up in person? If so, may be easiest to sell on gunbroker, etc. and just send the winner's FFL copy to the PD and have them ship it out...

You're probably right but I don't live in the city. I live in Contra Costa County. I'm pretty sure it's legal to own in my county. I certainly would not have any reason to take it to SF.

Yes, I know about the magazine capacity limit. The only magazines my Dad had were the 10 capacity clips. It's also against the law in NY for any clips greater than 10.

NYPD will not go out of their way to help in this matter. In fact, most have been trying to discourage me from obtaining the gun. The one detective I've dealt with however, has been very helpful as of late but not at the beginning.

I think the easiest thing to do is find a FFL that will pick it up for me and send it to a local FFL in Contra Costa. I believe I've found a NY FFL to handle the job I just need to find a local guy to receive it.

Good luck and hope you get the pistol. The LE in NYC do not want anyone to have a piece and want to force their mores on everyone.

Do anything you can to get your Fathers pistol back!
