3 weeks in India....

See ya!

Starting in Karnal, then heading for Chandigarh. Might go to Dharamsala if we can get transport out of Chanigarh that doesn't involve a bus with no brakes and mountain roads.....

Head back to Karnal (wifes family is there), then its off to Rajasthan. Swing though Agra, then head for Jaipur. Jump off to Bombay (I refuse to call it Mumbai), then go up the coast to Goa for a bit of relaxation.

Stop back in Karnal, then home. Should be quite the trip! We are bringing our former nanny along. She's like one of the family now.

Photo we took last fall.

Braver man than I am.

Take lots of Cipro with you and sign up for emergency medical transport out of there if needed!

Harddrive, can you post lots of photos and a narrative when you can? This is maybe on the way on a round the world trip that interests me and my wifey. Like impressions and local customs, tabu stuff, food that seems likeable, etc. Does English have any usefullness? Water issues? Hey good luck and have fun!! Glenn

Will do.

Because my wife is Indian, we tend to be a bit more adventurous than most in India. I would recommend doing a well planned tour of the area around Delhi and down to Agra to see the Taj Mahal. Then perhaps go to Bombay (make sure to take a trip out to the elephanta caves. Really cool.). Really depends on your interest and your budget. For the most part, India is not the kind of place you want to 'go native' and stay in cheap hotels or travel with the locals. Stay in nice places. We are going to use the train system a bit more this time, so I will let you know how that works out.

I can tell you in a very general way that Northern India is rougher than the south. The people tend to be less friendly, the polution is worse, just rougher all around. But a lot of the best historical sites are in the north.

If you subscribe to this thread, I will update it when I get back so you can see the photos and such.

My wife and I travelled through Rajasthan just Christmas last year. We also had a few days in Goa to finish the trip. Definately more laid back in the south.

Wow there is so much amazing stuff to see, we had a great time although my wife struggled with the driving style over there!!!

Not many straight cars on the roads

My brother lives in Delhi and travels around the country, (and region), a lot. Shoot me a PM if you want his email, I'm sure that he'd meet up with you if you want. They are in the process of moving to Pakistan, but might still be there and would be in and out of India either way. Let me know, and have a great trip!
