Any of you guys catch the Daytona Supercross last night?

That was just insane! Daytona is always demanding but that was off the charts

I've been trying to find a replay but no luck so far.

I am watching the lights as we speak on SPEED using TVU player on-line. What a mess! Believe it or not I raced in worse on basically a completely flooded track years ago (only the tops of the jumps were showing ).

Another round from last week comes on after this at 7:00 tonight on SPEED also.

Thanks for the call Tim, I found that TVU channel but it's not working. I'll keep at it. Enjoy the race, it's nuts!

I attended the Indianapolis round, it was my first time to a SX and it is well worth the trip! The lites are very fun to watch, just enough sketchy riding to make it intersting. The 30sec girls were okay too

and for those wanting a little more

this is more like a 6 day enduro than a supercross! Jeez they're disappearing into the woops!

How about the performance of Cooper and Parriott in the 200? Not to shabby. I don't know how well they'll do in a shorter race but to go from 60th to 7th for Brian...not bad.

They go through tear offs (a dozen probably lasted a whole lap) then they just toss the goggles and squint....seriously

Back in around '90 my friends and I drove down to southern Ohio for a big race and the track was basically flooded nearly the whole way around with just the jumps showing (a small stream next to it had flooded it's banks overnight). Suprisingly they did not cancel the race. I thought I would be smart and wear a garbage bag over my gear.... yeah that ended up being pointless. I started with about 4-5 tear-offs and within one or two laps, I had my goggles off. The underwater ruts were brutal and in the few spots where you could get out of second gear, the water would try to rip your feet off the pegs. I had my air box sealed up pretty good on my 1990 CR 250, but my buddy ended up smoking his crankshaft due to sucking too much grit into his bike there were a couple holes that were nearly 3' deep andhe found one of them. I am guessing only half of us finished that race (I got second IIRC). After the race we were suprisingly "somewhat" clean as it was more like a JetSki race than a motocross race.

My home track in Delta Ohio was clay. When it was wet, it was miserable as it would rut badly and sticky clay mud would cake everywhere on the bike making it feel like a heavy pig. I used to skip practice so I would have a spotless bike for the first moto. I nearly always pulled the holeshot, and until you ran into lappers, you had pretty clean sailing if you kept it upright and out front.

Watching this stuff on TV is bad for me. I always end up with a bad urge to buy a new bike and start hitting the races again in the 40+ class. A few years back I let my daughters try racing and I bought myself a cheap clapped out CR125 to putt around with them. I won the 2 races I entered in the 30 plus class against guys riding new fourstroke 450's even though I was on an old clapped out 125. Motocross is without a doubt the best form of racing or hobby I ever was involved with. It is nearly 100% about the skill/gonad size of the rider unlike most other forms of motorsport where it is often a combination of skill AND spending a fortune on a competitive mount. The feeling I used to get sitting on the start line with the 30 sec board turned sideways and the gate about to drop is like no other I have ever experienced.

Damn it I need to start racing again!

OK, I will shut up now

Tim,

I know exactly what you mean. When that race came on last night at the bar I happened to be with two of my old riding buddies. We all agreed AND signed a letter that we would get bikes and race again this year. I would have to drop about 50lbs minimum, but it would be a great motivation.

We all agreed that we would tone it down and just enjoy the races more than go balls out like before. My wife is cool with it and my oldest(4) is geeked at the idea.

You can get a great bike for $2k or less these days (early 2000's two stroke 250).

Leaning out over the gate as the revs come up on 40 bikes........oh man that's livin'

Here is a link to Speed's web site. On the left side of the page is a video clip of the last lap called: LAST LAP:SCX Day http://www.speedtv.com/schedule/

Agreed! (except for the part about toning it down a bit....second place is the first loser )

When I quit, it was because I was occasionally missing work when I would get injured. I was just getting started in my adult life and my new boss was none too happy with my "playing on dirt bikes". I had rent to pay etc, so I gave it up and did a short stint racing go carts..... The class that was popular in my area was pretty boring after one or two races compared to MX, so I just quit. A few years later I started flying and while it is fun, it too seems boring compared to MX. I like skiing, but other than racing the "downhill", it also pales in comparison to MX.

I know what you mean, but you can win races while not taking the riskier leaps. We had a guy at my home track that always finished in the top three and he rolled the three biggest every lap.

That's how I would have to do it.

That is a "logical" approach, but when the gate drops, I turn into a fricking maniac whether no matter what my game plan is prior to the race

When I took my girls to that race a few years ago, my wife (who I met many years after I quit racing) got kind of freaked out when she got to see me revert to my old "race mode". No doubt I will be in the doghouse on occasion if I choose to get serious about it again

And that's why you won all the time and I only have a couple of trophies. I was always pretty safe and under control....which absolutely cost me positions.

I would be elated just to be back in the game.

LaRocco's Leap

Either of you ever give redbud a go since it is sort of in the area.

Fun to watch, but I'll stick with roadracing, and maybe supermoto.

Several times, I know that Tim has been as well. Awesome track but dangerous in windy conditions.

Lorocco's leap is unreal, I would hit it flat out as fast as I could go from the bottom

Can't get into the 4 strokes...I'm into vintage/EVO/Ultima MX bikes. Ever read 'VMX'? Good stuff. A guy nearby runs a Hodaka restoration/parts mail order biz and has a really cool museum on his property...
